Fire ban
Looks like a province wide fire ban in Alberta
Sure gonna put a damper on the weekend.
At least we will be outside.

They won't even let us use portable propane firepits either. Typical May long week-end, rainy forecast for Calgary. At least no snow.

That's what I don't understand, they say alot of sites are closed around Calgary because of the water shed and being to wet, then impose the fire ban. I can understand up north, but down here?

I was camping last weekend just SE of Calgary, and it was pretty dry.
I don't understand banning the propane fire places though. I bought mine just because of fire bans. I just don't see how they are any more dangerous than a propane BBQ.

I heard from 2 media sources that the propane fireplaces are okay. I was in kananaskis last weekend and wasn't to dry. Their fire rating was low according to their signs. Still snow there.

It's an unfortunate knee-jerk reaction to the terrible situation up North.
The government really needs to look at the weather in the southern half of the province today and what the forecast is for the weekend and re-think their decision so we don't all freeze to death.

A good storm rolled through Edmonton area last night and rained all night. I'm hoping they do a lift on the ban but doubt it due to the tragedy In Slave Lake.

We had lots of rain last night and this evening it poured and hailed for almost 1 hour, the streets were rivers , I would think that they should lift the fire ban. and this was in central Alberta.

There is a smoking ban here in Ohio that prohibits people from lighting up in public buildings, including bars and restaurants. When those electronic cigarettes came out, people started using them instead of real cigarettes.. I have a point here I promise..
Even though these electronic devices only emit water vapor, they are banned as well because they might encourage the other smokers to light up a real tobacco product.
Point... perhaps the ban on propane fire pits is based on the same "logic" that bans electronic cigarettes here. Other campers may be encouraged to light real fires using real wood.
Just a thought...

Weekend was great. A first with no fire for me. The RCMP and SRD were out in full force this weekend.I talked to them lots in the last couple of days. They said they nailed over a dozen campsites for fires on the Friday night, we didn't see one on Saturday night. They had the choppers and planes overhead Friday and Saturday.oddly with the amount of times they drove by my site and talked to us they never hassled us for our machines insurance and registration. They never even took a tour of our site, just gave me activity books for the kids.it was fairly quiet for a may long this year.

cool. in Sask there is a province wide alcohol ban for the may long. think only way to drink is inside your camper and you cant be intoxicated outside of it. so many parks wrecked and campers annoyed that they had to do it.
