I cut and bring my own DRY wood. We cook every meal on the fire. Usually takes several hours. I cut and split it small to control the temp. If I had to buy it I'd probably quit camping.

The shakedown went well overall.
My wife would dis-own me if I bought one of those propane campfires.

The only thing she listed as a priority was adding a second battery. Today I just finished wiring in the 530w solar panels so this next weekend will be a good test of adequate power for boondocking.

530 watts should keep you and the your wife quite happy.

DW has allergies and that's why she doesn't like campfires, but to each his own. We would never complain to anyone, if you like to build campfires then do it. It just works for us not to have a campfire. We don't look for campgrounds that have a ban on campfires, we just like to camp. I love backpacking and sleeping on the ground but DW hates it and will not sleep on the ground or poop in the woods. With the camper she is always ready to go

I for one dislike it when a light wind blows smoke and ash from a neighboring campsite into my area of the campground, covering my TV and camper, awning and table with ash and stink... If you like staring into a campfire, a propane firepit gives you the same illusion without the smoke.

Just an observation here. In all my years of camping I have never encountered with, or spoke with, when out camping, this much negativity at the CG sites. Most of the people I have encountered have been happy go lucky folks, enjoying themselves, not a bunch of grumps.

You would think that anyone tuning into this forum would certainly stray clear from the camping scene with all the negativity being posted. Never mind what the next person does, unless it's truly disruptive, get out and enjoy yourself and have fun.

I think that's going a bit far....

People can't have a fire?
Because it gets your stuff dirty!?
