First Long trup in new COLUMBUS

well we finally headed south 2-11-2013 for the 2nd outing of our new Columbus. It has been quite an adventure so far. Our truck throttle linkage broke in Boise Id. Lucky it was not in some remote area along our way. Good Sam Road side assistance came through for us with flying colors. The rest of the trip to Texas was uneventful.

However, a week after we arrived, a drunk driver crossed the center-line and hit us. We had quite a hairy ride after that, it took my left front wheel and rotor clear off which eliminated 80% of my brakes and all of my steering. My wife said it was like riding a tilt-a-whirl at the carnival. The Lord was with all of us as no one in the accident was physically injured. However, our tow rig did not survive, We now must find a new rig to get us home. My insurance has been good to us (we carry collision) but the other insurance co. has not talked with us and will not talk to our insurance co.

Bob

Very glad that your are safe. Keep us informed on the replacement of your Pickup.

Curious too as to if your we're towing, any damage to the trailer?

By the way, welcome to Texas! Hope the remainder of your stay is better.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
I imagine that with an older TV, it will be expensive to replace. We also pull with an older truck, and know we would never get what it is worth to us.
As far as the drunk driver goes, it reminds me of one of our first trips through Texas many years ago. We were driving somewhere in the west part, a very dry area with very short grass in the ditches. Because of the short grass, all of the trash was clearly visible, and the ground was litterally covered with discarded whisky bottles. It made me watch every vehicle I met very closely, wondering if they were slamming back a 26 or two.
Of course, there are drink drivers everywhere, and we always have to be driving in full defense mode.
Hope you make out ok.

No, the Columbus was safe at Quail Crossing RV Park Waco, we were within 200ft of the exit to get to the park when we ended our wild ride. We were hit by a 2012 Ford Focus...boy were they lucky that I was not 5' futher forward or backward when they hit. They would probably not have survived hitting any where but the soft spot of the front suspension.

Holy Cow!!
Glad no one was badly hurt. I hope you have your hitch pin and frame closely inspected by a professional for any possible hidden damage from the impact.
Maybe it's time for a 6.7 Cummins.
Best of luck with the repairs and dealing with the insurance company(s).

That's one sweet looking truck. I love the brush guards.
