First Time...do it at home

I've been reading a few FRF posts concerning de-winterize at home or at a campground....well this was our first time going thorough this process and I for one am glad we did it at home yesterday and today...why? simple, you can't by this valve at a campground. Without it there is no functioning toilet...

What valve is that? Been camping a long time and never noticed one on my camper before.

It is something to do with the flow control at the back of the toilet. Mine froze and blew a couple of years ago after I de-winterized a couple of weeks too early. A real pain to access on my rig. We had a geyser when I switched the water on and before my DW yelped once she found it. As you can see, not the cheapest piece of plastic either, although that is Canadian $. Even so, we were at about par back then.

Forgot the details....it's the valve at the rear of the toilet which controls the water to the toilet and pressure relief valve when you press the foot pedal.....$41 at dealership $28 on line but not original equip.

Yep, have had to install one of those before. Very easy to do for me. I ordered mine.

MainelyUS has a good point. I usually find that mine is broken on a holiday weekend and all of the RV dealerships in the area are closed for a long weekend.

I've gone through exactly 2 of them; 1 per toilet in different years.

The second time, I found that I could get a plug for the line where the toilet connects. Otherwise, I couldn't have water on in the camper at all. We were really camping that weekend!

I took me 18 months to discover that my valve was leaking. It was a very very slow drip from the valve shaft and it wasn't until the dripping water ran out onto the bathroom floor that I discovered what the problem was. Most of the time, the water ran behind the toilet, then forward. parallel to the outside wall of the RV until it ended up in a basement storage compartment.

Dometic says that the O ring in the valve shaft isn't replaceable but I suspect that the valve can be disassembled and it can be replaced.

Changed it twice. Kept two on hand after that.

Learned to totally disconnect the inflow pipe from it in the winter, and get all the water out as much as possible. Easy to reconnect when needed.

If you press toilet flush valve while you are winterizing with anti freeze you will eliminate the problem.

I did....it didn't.
Having an extra one on hand sounds like a good idea.

Now I am curious. Did you hold it down until you could see pink anti freeze in the bowl?

I have winterized using compressed air with no anti freeze in southern Indiana and never had this problem. I have seen it 10 below zero in the winter.
