First time using the gas oven.

We went camping this past weekend and we decided on Saturday night we needed some desert! We ran to the grocery store and purchased a apple pie to bake. We got back to the camper and lit the oven! I didn't think about it being the first time we had used it and opened the door to put in the pie. The smoke alarm went off! LOL At least we know the smoke detector works!!

lol The pie was GREAT!! I did let it "burn" for a little while once I discovered it!

Another suggestion is buying a pizza stone such as a pampered chef and leave it in the oven to help evenly cook your meals!

Been there, done that! This was my first oven, so I didn't think about it. The furnace, on the other hand, I should have known about. It finally got cold enough to check it a few weeks ago so I fired it up when I got home from work..about 4AM. I don't THINK I woke anyone up. My smoke detector is about 6" from the wall and about 3' from the edge of the slide. I had my slide in and had a heck of a time getting to the detector to pull the battery....glad nobody had a video camera.

I still haven't used my oven yet. But at least now I know how to light it!

If you can't afford a pizza stone, go to HD or Loews and get some ceramic tiles. non glazed preferred. They work just like the stone.

Pizza stones and tile can crack from the bouncing caused by out nations "wonderful" highways and back roads. I use an 'air bake' cookie sheet which also takes away the hot spots and makes for a more even baking.

While some consider an oven a useless item in their campers, I enjoy fresh WARM baked goods right out of the oven in the fall, winter and spring. I must admit it is too dang hot in Florida to bake in the summer.

I agree at first I thought the oven was a waste. It was a required option (ignoring the oxymoron) with my upgrade package.

However, I make a killer potato gravy with biscuits for breakfast sometimes and I use the 'sheet' of pre-made Pillsbury biscuits from Sam's Club. Biscuits warmed in the oven is SOOOOoo much better than ones warmed in the microwave.

I would like to say that whoever designed that oven needs to have his head slammed repeatably in a car door for about an hour and a half. I cannot see how one person can light the pilot by themselves, unless they have 3 arms.

Our oven doubles as a cupboard when not in use.

Chips
Cereal
The very lower portion where the pilot light is works great for hiding a couple of pounds of Oreos!

You need to be careful about using ceramic tiles as pizza stones. These are not rated food grade and can contain Lead or other undesirable material that can leach out during the cooking process. Those tiles are often manufactured in poorer 3rd world countries and you will never know what went into the mix.

Totally agree with the comment about the location of the pilot light. Took the second trip in the Roo 21SS (and the 1st long trip - 10 days). I decided I wanted to try out the oven & bake some canned biscuits. So I got out the owner's manual to see how to light the oven. The instructions said to light the pilot light but NOTHING about where it was! After much searching & cursing, finally spotted it under the burner rack (or whatever it's called). My aged knees won't allow me to get down in the floor & back up with ease so I pretty much had to practically stand on my head to see what I was doing. It lighted pretty easily once I found it & figured out how to reach it, but it could certainly have been put in a more convenient location!! (BTW, the biscuits were great - along with the scrambled eggs, sausage, and gravy. )
