First trip with heavy rain

We leave tomorrow for our Mothers Day trip. They're calling for 2-3 inches of rain tomorrow.

How do you all handle setting up in the rain? The traveling part doesn't concern me. It's only 45 minutes away. I'll just take it slow and safe. But getting there and getting setup is what I'm curious about. Is there a good strategy or just do it as quick as possible? What about site water management? I called the campground and we're on the lower part but far enough from the river to be concerned.

Back into your site. Go in the camper. Get out and level it and disconnect after the rain stops.

I would except it's not supposed to stop till Saturday afternoon. Weather is supposed to be great after that though.

OK so sucks to be you Set up in the rain while the family is in the truck and then have them dash into the trailer.

(BTW this is why we went MotorHome )

It does. But it happens. We've had rain before, but nothing like this. Get a poncho

I tent camped in the rain countless times. An RV is a palace compared to a soggy tent and wet sleeping bag.

I agree. I was only asking if there a a certain strategy setting up. I don't miss those days either.

Wet weather gear or get wet setting up
Try doing it in a pop up
But I would suggest pack smart if it's an outside item pack it where it won't be in the way
Have your levelers handy as well as your wheel chalks as well as pads for your jacks if the ground is wet and soft they help bridge the soft soils
Having the right size socket on a drill driver or batter impact helps set up go faster

Site water is up to the campground unless you are going to bring prefilled sandbags to try and divert it. Look at the site and park so the water plays as little role as possible

It is what it is. DW does the inside setup to include slides. I do the outside stuff until it's done. Then a nice hot shower.

My SOP is get the family from the truck to the campers asap and wear a loose poncho raincoat and set it up and then leave the wet raingear outside. Shoes too.

This is probably going to be my strategy. Except I'll be there at least an hour before the family. So hopefully they can pull up and run in and I'll get whatever my wife brings.

Shoes under the camper (no need for them to soak in the rain) and the poncho hung on anything handy...outside.

The vynil flooring FR uses in the campers is fairly waterproof but very slick when wet.

We thought about it, but it's our get away time. At some point it's going to rain. If we can make it a day and a half we're good. I'm coming home Sunday afternoon, but the wife and kids are staying till Tuesday afternoon.

Rain never stopped me, even tent camping. Most times, it followed me. I left in the sun and blue skies, got to the campground and it rained and rained the whole time I was there until it was time to go. Then it got nice...

Family time is family time.
Staying at home never seems to include much family time anymore.

Make the best of it.
You are going to get some sort of wet setting up no matter what.
I do when we go and it rains.
I have a good "Frog Togs" rain suit and it keeps me dry for the most part.
