My DW and I have been in Florida during red tide. When we were at the beach it caused us to cough while the and fish were swimming out of the water. I don't remember it lasting real long. We did go to different areas that were not experiencing the problem while down there.

We are both retired as of this year. We are going to Upriver RV Resort in North Ft. Myers, Fl in January and February. We have never been at the resort before nor have ever gone anywhere for that long. We plan to take our time coming back and check out more resorts/campgrounds while we are in Florida.

Florida Red Tide- cancel trip??

I believe Youroo was basically saying that U.S. Northerners do not really go to Florida in winter for the beach but to escape the below freezing temps where we are. I had a friend last year go on a cruise with me to Caribbean and I said one of the days may be rainy so may not be a good beach day, his response was he was coming from 50+ inches of snow and he would be on beach having a drink in the rain, overcast or anything would be better than freezing your but off back home.

I will be down in Kissimmee in three weeks for rally and will enjoy every minute red tide or not.

I live here - red tide is here every year. I do not realize it with the exception fishing is really bad - fish seem to disappear. But none in our family has respiratory problems....

How long can red tide last for...a few weeks, a few months? Most likely?

No issues and we had ocean front hotel. We were also in our early 30's and pretty healthy at the time. MIL had no issues either.
