We are awaiting delivery of our new Flagstaff 21FB. It is coming with the outside grill and table. Can someone report on the usability of the gas grill? For example: Burns everything, Decent job, Hard to clean, etc. Thanks for any input.

Been plenty of debate on said grill.

We use ours ALL the time!
Do not leave home without it.
When we traded campers it came with us.
I love to cook steaks on it because it has a good low heat if the camp fire isn't going .
We also love to cook sweet corn on the husk in it.
So many uses so little time to type.

we've had ours for over 6 years now and never had any problems.
works great as long as you are grilling basic things.
a little too small for shish kabobs.

bought our unit used and came with the grill
we use it at least once every time we go out

WOW, $200 bucks, I have one setting in my basement right now that has never been used that came with our 2006 8314ss and is in perfect condition and I have been trying to come up with a plan on what to do with it, the only thing that is missing is the quick connect hose, I have the grill and the piece that attaches to the camper for it to set on.

That sounds about right at $149.

If you figure the $200 MSRP to add it on when you purchase your trailer, and deduct the usual 25% for final purchase price.

I was a little leary of adding it on when I bought but I am glad I did. It's very convenient to use and performs well enough for our needs.

This is the grill that came with my 5er. I carry it, but only use it for warming or hotdogs. Pretty useless other than that, and definitely not worth $146, more like $30-40.

Does anyone know the grill that Sierra/Sandpiper are hanging off of their back bumper? Is that something that can be bought aftermarket? Or would that come with the same angst and woe that other rear bumper accoutrements come with?

I have the rear bumper mount grill on my Sierra. The grill is really not worth it. The bumper mount is nice, but with the outdoor kitchen slide on my 365saq, the mount isn't long enough to bring it around in front of the kitchen. I have material to extend the mount with another pivot point, and I plan on making the end mount for my Weber, instead of the stock unit. The mount itself doesn't put any stress on the bumper while traveling. I'm sure it can be bought aftermarket, but could easily be made also.

I do like the mount, but the grill is really useless for anything but hotdogs. The design is very simple, and I modified it so the grill could be easily removed (was bolted on originally). It just needs to be about 18-24" longer so it extends to front of kitchen. Would be perfect for unit with outdoor kitchen not on a slide. My new design will add a new arm with another pivot so the grill(weber) will be just beyond the slide.

We have the same passenger side slide on our Sabre, so I would need a longer arm, as well. I just picked up a cheap charcoal grill- it would be nice to have somewhere to keep it.

I might look at fabricating something. My dad and father-in-law are both quite handy. (I'm more of a monkey who hammers with a wrench.)

Wrt the original question on the Sidekick grill, we have one that came with our 2011 Flagstaff Ultralite 26RLSS and we've been very happy with it. I've cooked everything from hot dogs to steaks to grilled peppers to cedar planked salmon on it, and it works great, just a bit slower than my full size grill at home. Cleaning has been very simple, and it's small enough you can put the whole thing in a laundry sink for soaking/scrubbing. Just be sure to dry everything off immediately once you wash it off and it seems it will last well.

My only complaint is that the small top rack is so close to the lid when closed that very little will fit there without contact when you try to close the lid.

oh yes
that is one disadvantage
no room on top rack when lid closed

but
not sure why ones are complaining about the price
everything for RV's these days
cost much to the high side

the BBQ thing looks cool hanging on our rig
works very good for the two of us
I would have paid an extra 200 or 250 for it
if it did not come with our unit

I've often wondered about these grills that hang on the door side of the camper. Is there ever an issue with them being under the awning? Like heat, smoke or grease? Perhaps there is enough distance for it not to be a problem. Just wondering.
