Final Update

Dexter pulled thru.

Received all my parts Friday afternoon, only 1 week delivery can't complain to much.

All bled and ready to go.
Here is the repair about 99 % just a couple loose ends.

As far as I am concerned I am happy with Dexter's service. although it should have never happened.

Now all there is to do is to go try it out.

Well, I sure learned something from this thread. I had no idea that there were dual caliper disc brakes out there where a "retainer" is all that holds the pads in. That's not a squeek killer; that retainer is essential. Otherwise the pad just flies out like an old VW beetle that had pads you could replace w/o pulling the caliper. My old F-250 could never lose a pad like this - the backing plate had hooks that kept it in place. Happy ending anyway.

Stupid question, but I'm curious... Is the rotor painted black, and do you have to get the paint off before using? Or, do you let it just wear off with use?

Only a stupid question if you ask it again.................the black is an anti-rust coating. No, you do not have to remove it.

In fact, it is available on on many manufacturers of after market rotors, some of them use it, some don't.

Apparently Dexter does

Just to clear things up. That is a single caliper. It is a 4 piston caliper with a free floating rotor.

The big shinny bent sheet metal piece is an anti rattle piece not a retainer. The pin that holds that in place goes through a hole in each brake pad and a hole in ache side of the caliper. The pins are what holds the brake pads in.

These kind of brakes are much more efficient but cost more. They have been I higher end cars for a long time and are working thier way down. Toyota has liked to used them in trucks and subs for over a decade.

The only way for something like this to happen is what ever holds the retaining pin in failed. Most of the times it’s a clip that goes through a hole in the end of the pin. Sometimes it’s a press for between the pin and the caliper.
