Forest River Warranty work

Last Labor Day, we bought a Flagstaff HW27KS. We bought it in Indiana because it was $4k cheaper than here in NJ. There is one local dealer that multiple friends have used and haven't been happy with. The other local dealer has stated since we didn't buy it from them, they don't have to do warranty service for us. Any other ideas or do we just head back to Indiana? Thanks

you need to contact a warranty rep at FR, for your brand.

we bought our Roo in Chicago and brought it back to Napa, Ca.
the Roo warranty rep found a number of nearby dealers that would be willing to do warranty work. one didn't even sell any FR products.

you can also request using an independent RV shop but you have to have FR pre-approve the work and you have to be willing to pay upfront and then get reimbursed after the work is done.

You might also contact the dealer you bought it from. They might have a network of dealerships with whom they've established a relationship to handle their customers' warranty work.

I bought mine from a dealer in Indiana. When I needed warranty work, I called them. They had the work approved by forest river and then found a local dealer who would do the work. I dropped my camper off at the dealer, picked it up a week later, and paid nothing.

mcshane - where are you in NJ? In northern NJ here, can recommend a place or to if you are near.

dieselbobcat, we are in SJ near Philly. We did contact CW, but they said they would only do the appliance warranties until the original warranty expired & our extended warranty kicked in.

It sounds like the Dealer is the problem. When I had warranty work done. I called Forest River they told me to pick a dealer that I liked. The dealer and Forest River worked it out. They did excellent work. I was happy with both the dealer and Forest River.

Can I ask what kind of warranty work you need done?

The door doesn't seem to align properly, the lift motor has a recall, and a few minor things I'll have done while it's in for the others.

what I have found is that if you are traveling and something go's wrong they will find a dealer close to you and send you there. Happened to me Florida, when I talked to the dealer recommended they told me that they will move you to the top for work to be done to get you back on your trip again.....

since dealers operate under a franchise, I'm sure FR can require them to take care of warranty work

Unfortunately many dealers look very differently at someone who lives near the dealer but purchased elsewhere, verses purchased elsewhere & traveling in their area. I have 1st hand experience & I had previously purchased at the local dealer.

It's my understanding that dealers do not operate under a franchise and there is little that FR can "force" them to do. It's nothing like the auto industry where the manufacturer has a big stick.

That said, andy29847, RVW advertises its nationwide network- have you tried contacting them?

I bought two units in Ohio for that same reason, savings. I ran into the same thing locally with a dealer when trying to get warranty repairs. They didn't deny doing the work, just couldn't get to me in for a "while", like months later. I don't understand these dealers because that could be more service work for them after the warranty expires. Car dealers will tell you they make more on service work than selling cars. Guess not the same with rv's. I did find a dealer who took me right in, and had no issues working with FR warranty. Both times I dealt directly with the FR warranty rep to make sure everything was approved. Once I had to pay upfront, and I was reimbursed pretty quick. Good luck!

NOPE! don't compare the RV industry, to how the Auto industry works, you'll be sadly disappointed.
the only thing that RV dealers and Auto dealers have in common, is that they sell things with wheels and have a service dept.

FR cannot "require" their dealers to do warranty work on units that they didn't sell. dealers know this and often refuse to do the warranty work, even for owners that are on the road.

Money wise....why would a Forest River dealer turn down warranty work?Regardless of where purchased. It must have something to do with what they are paid for a labor rate.

Likely so, but it's like cutting off your nose to spite your face- a dealer who does warranty work for me, even though I didn't buy from them, will get future parts and/or work from me when its coming out of my pocket. If they refuse me now, I'll not go back later unless I have to.

I've even seen a dealer refuse one of my brother's friends to do paid work (winterizing) because he bought his fiver stateside.

The dealer I deal with with take on anybodies work, since they're going to get paid anyways, but their customers do take precedence over non customers. Not that they drag their heels like I've heard some do, just a bumping of priority if they're overbooked.

yes, it is. warranty work pays less than their normal shop rate work.
they'd rather do non-warranty work because they make more money on it.

but they also may alienate customers and create a bad rep in the RV community.
