FR-1 water filter

Has anyone had leakage problems with their water filter? Ours was tightly screwed in (using the tool provided) and dropped off the cap causing flooding. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Pull the filter assembly out and throw it away. It will, at best, just leak. A lot of these are blowing apart and flooding everything. Not to mention the filter replacements cost way too much.

I had to undo the glass filter container while it was fully charged to put the water filter in luckily I remembered to unscrew the drain cap in the bottom compartment when the water went everywhere

I read this thread not because I have a leak at my filter, but I was trying to lock away some knowledge in case I ever did have a leak.

But now I am confused by the intent of this reply and the attached link. When I clicked the link, it took me to Google web site. Are you implying I should trust the responses in Google more than the responses of FRF members?

Thanks for the question and helpful replies.

No leaks but I removed it from under the counter where it was hard to get at and moved it outside. I hook it up when I get to the campground. When I purchased our RV, 12/13, the dealer gave us an extra six filters. When those are gone so will the entire assembly be gone, a HD type will be used. Three down three to go.

If you do a search in this forum, there is no shortage of people who have experienced leaks, many have had major leaks that have caused a lot of damage, caused by the canister completely letting go. Many of us have totally removed the filter and placed a filter outside.

FR-1 water filter

If you tightened it tight with tool that was your problem!
You tighten it by hand and line up the arrow!
This one shows over tightened.

Yes, I have. Twice. Doesn't take me long to figure things out...

Actually, the link includes responses from FRF. Although it's much easier to just use the built-in search function at the top of the page. This is a pretty common question/problem.

You'll not have any issues with this filter and housing as long as you use it correctly.

X2 with TURBS response. I have heard a lot of complaining about this filter system. I will agree it is different from the waterpur in our 09 Cardinal but I am just careful removing and tighten.

If done right water filter canister should screw off by hand or very little effort from the wrench

Thanks for the question and helpful replies.

This is the easiest way to provide all the links to water filter questions and good answers on the FRF.

The plumbing tape would prevent proper tightness. The O ring will seal just fine.

Agreed. No need to use plumbers tape. Plastic to plastic- no tape.

The sealing is done by the o-ring, try cleaning the mating surfaces for the o-ring and apply a light coat of fauset grease to the o-ring

Mine works great had it for 3 years. The key is not to over tighten, and do not us the wrench to tighten. Hand tight to snug only.
