freezing temps, flower rescue plz

We are seasonal, so we plant things. When it was 70 degrees a few days back I bought flats of annuals and a couple hanging baskets. It's going down to 29 degrees tonight. I put the flats and baskets in my trunk and covered them with a sleeping bag. Will try and start car with back seats down and run heat from time to time. If you have better awareness of what to do, would appreciate help. Badly in need of flower rescue.
P.S. Go Red Wings! Series tie breaker tonight!

Sort of normal for planting before the may long here in Alberta. We just cover the plants with towels at night and they do fine. The heat in the ground gets trapped under the towels to protect the plants
Just need to keep the frost off the plants.
