Fresh Water Transfer Pump
I finally got smart a couple of months ago and decided to buy a transfer pump for transferring fresh water from 7 gallon totes to my fresh water tank. I bought a Liberty Model 331 120 volt pump.
Does anybody here use a pump for transferring fresh water? If so, what brand and model is it? What are its specifications?
I have been a plumber my entire adult life and I have seen and used dozens of different types and brands of transfer pumps for various applications, but mainly for draining water heaters. They all performed about the same and had relatively short lives, mainly going bad due to rust as they were all made of cast iron. I have never used a plastic transfer pump. I believe I have the experience now to recommend what I think is the best small transfer pump out there.
If you are in the market for a great transfer pump, take a look at the Liberty Model 331. It requires 120 volts, so may not be ideal for boondockers without a generator. The entire pump is made of cast aluminum and is powered by a 1/2 HP motor, and it is made in the USA. Nowhere does the manufacturer state that it is not acceptable for potable water, nor does it state otherwise. I see no reason for it to not be suitable for potable water. It will pump to over a 105' head. This pump just blows away every other small transfer pump I have ever used. I highly recommend it to any RVer.
Here is a link to the specifications of this pump: http://www.libertypumps.com/Data/Sal...odel331web.pdf

You can also look at marine deck wash down pumps. Work well and designed for salt water so hold up well.

Fresh water
I assume that this procedure is for use when a faucet and hose are not available?

I use my camper pump to pump from a 45 gallon water bladder to my fresh water tank in the camper. Works really well. Chuck

As with most, I use a 12V pump. I simply plug it into the trailer connector on my truck. However, I bought a pump that will work as a replacement for the trailer pump, should it ever fail.

Just a thought - all materials coming into contact with drinking water must be CERTIFIED for conformance with ANSI/NSF Standard 61. Most such materials are marked or stamped "NSF".
If you use a pump or other materials (transfer containers, hoses, etc) not so certified you would technically have to consider your RVs distribution system to have been exposed to contamination - requiring a decontamination. Might want to drink only bottled water.

I like the taste of the water. Thanks for your warning, though.

A couple of years ago I replaced my RV water pump with a stronger one and I use the old pump to transfer water to my RV.

I see many have answered your question and I will throw on my two cents worth as well! What I did was purchase a replacement pump for the 5er and until it is needed it is my transfer pump. Seems when you have an extra anything, the original lasts longer!

Yep, my intention is to use my winterization valves and outdoor shower hose to fill my freshwater tank. It's actually the basic idea for how I fill the fresh water tank when I'm on city water and don't want to disconnect from city water.

Bilge Pump
I picked up a bilge pump at the RV and Boating supply, and use clear tubing, to pump an Ice chest full of water from the bed of the pick up to the RV. Works incredibly fast. 12 volt. I keep it all in a tote bag.
That is for the first fill after setting up at Elk Camp.
When I refill with two 6 gallon jugs, I just hoist them up. Its a minor workout. 48 lbs each no big deal.

I got a 12v, 200gpm pump from Harbor Freight. It has worked fine so far.

X2 FlyBob.
I use a Rule deck washdown pump that has in/out 3/4 hose ports and is 12vdc. Wiring is coded red/black and about 2 ft long. Mine has been on three boats over the years and still pumps like new.
West Marine and Amazon have them.

A 12v, 200gpm pump? I doubt it.
