Gas in North Texas

Apparently, people around here are going into panic mode. Everyone seems to be freaking out because gas supplies are not coming for a few days due to the refinery shutdowns.

The TV reporters are having a go with it. Really getting into their reporting about the long lines and closed pumps. Many of my Facebook friends are acting like it's Armageddon.

I personally haven't seen this and was able to pull right into the station this morning and fill my bike up.

Relax folks. It's just for a few days. We got lucky up here. Hardly any of the rain. Enjoy the cooler weather.

It is unfortunate that this is going on during Labor Day weekend though so I can see some people's concerns, but there is gas out there.

Curious, is this going on in other states?

Let's keep those down south on our minds. They have it tough.

Last night on the way home I passed 6 stations and you would think it was the 70's oil embargo again. Lines everywhere. Local tv station fed the hysteria with a report of possible gas rationing. Here we go again.

Gas prices going up here, although whether it's because of that or not I don't know. I suspect it is somewhat. Building contractors are saying that building materials are jumping fast and they expect a large increase in the cost even this far North.

I stopped at the Kroger Fuel Center in Sherman, TX last evening to get lawnmower gas. They were out of 87 octane regular and 89 octane mid-grade and were selling their 93 octane premium for regular gas price ($2.189).

If prices can't go up naturally, shortages will occur, and panic buying will have a synergistic effect with those shortages.

Shortages will spur panic which will spur shortages which will spur panic...

Nebraska. Got diesel this morning for same price as I did 2 weeks ago. No lines here. News report this morning said only about a 1/4 of the refineries were off-line at the moment.

I blame the media on putting everyone in the panic mode. It's great news for them. They created it to report it.
Yes we had a little hiccup. If everyone will buy gas when needed we will get through it just fine. This is what all the reserves are for.

My brother-in-law lives northeast of Fort Worth and said there are really long lines developing at the gas stations around him this morning. I know a lot of folks are traveling into the metroplex for the Florida/Michigan football game this Saturday (including my son). I recommended to him that he stop on the way into town and top off his tank tomorrow afternoon.

About +.10 here in Arizona, and we get our supplies from the West Coast. Whenever I see a hurricane in the gulf, I load up before the inevitable spike!

I filled up yesterday at Sam's Club in Las Vegas for the same price as two weeks ago. However, it seemed to me that the some of the major stations had increased their prices from what I remember them being. They are always higher but seem a LOT higher now. No lines anywhere that I saw - or at least not more than usual at Sam's.

Ah, yes! The "Press" up to its usual hysterical twaddle and shite. Nice.

We're headed out Saturday morning for vacation and I expect prices will be somewhat higher. I'm certainly not worried about it. Cooler heads should prevail. The downside is that 25% of the nation's refining capacity is shutdown. The good news is that workers should have the Corpus Christi refineries back on line this weekend sometime.
