Generator

Greetings....I have a 2016 Flagstaff V Lite WFKSS. I am looking to purchase a generator capable of running the trailer completely with 2 / 15K A/C units.

Any suggestions on what size?

Any suggestions on a brand / model, regardless of price.

Sorry, don't know much about them.

Thanks so much!

If price is not a factor then this one should work for you to run two AC units at the same time.

Thanks. Looks good. I'll research it.

I'll also add that we have a 50amp trailer.

Your best choice would be a pair of 2000w INVERTER generators that can be paralleled.

If you dont plan on using it in a campground and you don't mind noise, any 3500w+ open frame contractor style generator will work.

Two 2000 watt paralleled or one 3500 watt would not run two 15k AC units at the same time.

Wow... To run two a/c units youll need a generator with a 50 amp outlet IMO.. They will be large and heavy..

This one is 353 lbs.

https://www.electricgeneratorsdirect...or/p77108.html

What would be your plan for lugging it around?

IMO I would forget about running two A/C units. Get a smaller generator 30 amp and run one a/c at a time.

Run the main living a/c during the day and run the bedroom unit when sleeping.

Problem will be the dogbone adapter.

Im not sure but I think you will have to make your own as they only will power one side of the 50 amp connector.

Youd have to make another one and switch out the dog bone adapters depending on what side of the RV you want to power..

I believe the 30- 50 amp adapters tie the both hots together on the 50 amp side.

But you will be limited to 30 amps only.

Running this dogbone with a smaller generator will let you run one a/c at a time.

Trying to run two a/c's you'll just overload the gen.

But this will allow you to carry a more manageable sized generator...

If you need a portable unit the Honda 7000 suggested above would be a very good choice. You will need an adapter from 240 twist lock to 50amp RV.

Since you said "regardless of price" I'd look at teh Honda EU7000IS Portable Generator.

Quiet at 52 dba and rated for 5500w continuous output, 7,000 watts surge.

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...oaAjEDEALw_wcB

Even if both AC units kick on at the same time it should be able to handle the start load easily.

Plus----- It's an inverter so you get "nice" power.

...and it has a "nice" inverter... pure sine wave; many claim sine wave but are almost square wave.

Side note: We are camping with a couple of Honda generators, a 2000 and 3000. The 2000, good as it is, will not start the A/C in my V-Lite, the 3000 will start and run the A/C in the Classic Super Lite. If nothing else, they put out great AC power and are surprisingly quiet.

I do not think/believe 2 2000w inverter gens will power 2 ACs. In my opinion/experience they will power 1 AC and a few other smaller appliances. If I am wrong and they do power 2 ACs then Im going to be extremely upset because I sold my 2 Yamaha 2000w when I get my new 5er with 2 ACs and I paid for the 5500 W onan.

Not to get off topic, but I would like to ask how do people lug these large generators around?

Do you lift them and put them in the back of a pick up truck>

Man that honda 7000 is 286 pounds.

I have this kohler 2.8 k that runs my 13.5 a/c and its 68 lbs, and I dont even like lugging that around and putting it in the back of my truck ...LOL

The Honda 2000 weight is not bad... I just put it into and out from the back of the truck. If it were larger and heavier (like my big, noisy Generac 7500-watt unit, wheels are a must, and some sort of ramp would help a lot. The other couple at our site uses a winch in his barn to load and unload their 3000-watt Honda.

Here's one solution.

Viking Solutions Rack Jackâ„¢ Utility Lifts : Cabela's

The basic unit lifts 300# and the Magnum 650# using outrigger/stabilizers.

The basic unit will lift most generators into a pickup and the unit itself only weighs 44 lbs.

Here's another option but it may require a reinforcement plate to mount it on (from frame to side of bed).

No need to be upset, because you need at least 3000 watts to ran one 15k AC. Been there tried that with one 2000 watt.
