Exclamation Generator + A/C = Problems

So....

My wife and I are out camping at the beach, without hook ups and decided to turn on our generator and charge our batteries some. Well, we decided to turn on our A/C too. The A/C fan turns on and as soon as the cooling part kicks on the generator stops. It is an Onan, at it is giving me error code 13, "UNDERVOLTAGE FAULT: Generator unable to maintain rated voltage" I have nothing else plugged in.

So what could be causing this?

My rig is a 2014, forrest river Stealth 2116.

2nd time camping it in, first time boondocking.

Thanks for your help!

Cliff

How many amps is generator, sounds like it can't produce enough power. When your A/C first kicks on there is a huge draw. You can buy a cold start kit, which is basically a big capacitor that would help with that for the AC

The water heater is gas only, and is off anyway, but the fridge was set on auto. I turned it to Gas. I then turned on the AC and same thing. I will give it a few minutes with the fridge on gas then try it again.

I've ran the AC before on just the generator, not sure what has changed now.

Generators can get weaker with time, and appliances like the A/C could draw more power. Whats the model number of the generator?

This whole rig is brand new. Less than 5 hours on the generator.

if your batts are real dead, and/or you have the converter pumping out 12v otherwise, that will eat up some genny amps....try switching off the converter then letting compressor kick on , THEN turn converter back on?

I'll be perfectly honest, I have no idea how to turn off the converter. I know all that stuff is located under the bed, and when I look at it, all I see is a bunch of wires. #notelectricallyinclined.
