I currently use a noisy genny at race tracks. But it's big. 5600 Watts load, 7000 start up. But, I am considering the 3100 Champion. Will it run a 15K A/C? Or is that too much t ask of it? Anyone with testimony of said use?

Dometic recommends a minimum of 2500 running watts for a 15k

You may be able to run your AC with a Champion 3100, some people have stated that it works. Dometic recommends a minimum 3500 watt generator for the 15K Brisk Air AC unit.

I use paralleled Champion 2000's to run my 15K AC. They run the AC quite well, but have a tough time with high pressure start up at higher elevations.

My fifth wheel has two A/C units. A 15K in the rear and a 13.5K in the front bedroom. My 2 year old Champion 3100 Inverter can run either unit but not both at the same time. Both units use the same air raceways and vents so typically, when we are watching TV in the living room, I run the Bedroom A/C. Then when we go to bed, I'll run the Livingroom A/C. That puts the A/C interior noise furthest away.

Now when it's summer in Texas and 106 degrees outside, we run both A/C's at the same time BUT..in that environment I'm usually at a campsite with full hookups. I find my generator use is pretty much limited to the Southern states in the spring and fall and the northern states in the summer.

So, to confirm what your saying, a two year old Champion 3100 inverter runs your 15K A/C just fine.
I understand that I can't run that, plus a bunch of other stuff. But, perhaps the TV too? What about the Di-Hydrogen Monoxide heater at the same time?

No, you need to run that from an alternative combustion reactor with hydrocarbon gas.

Yes, I can run other things with the A/C like the LED/LCD TV or onboard furnace, but here's the short list of mutually exclusive items, i.e. you can only run one from the list at a time.
  • A/C
  • Microwave
  • Hair Dryer
  • Electric Fireplace
  • anything else that blows the breaker when you try ;-)

Lastly, run your Refrigerator and Hot Water heaters on GAS mode while generating (just sends more juice to the battery charger).

Regards the dual fuel. Did you run it much on Propane? If so, did you run it on Propane long enough to see how long a 20gal tank would last?

The Champion Inverter series are relatively quiet and much less expensive than the Rec and Blue. There's the 3100 watt that comes in manual pull start, electric with remote start, and the newest is Dual Fuel that can use Gas or Propane. The market pricing seems to be in the $650 to $850 range depending on the model. They make a slightly more powerful version 3400 that just came out and it goes for about $1000.

I have the original 3100 pull start and it runs my 15K A/C, only weighs 85# and noise is 53db in econo mode. The 3100 models are all now easily modified to add an extend run option that uses an external marine gas tank that quick connects. You can pick whatever size tank you want and run 24 hours or more at a time.

The instructions to do that mod were recently put together in another thread here. Check this out to lead to both a Youtube on how to do the mod and some parts lists and such. Cost can be as little as $55.

Add Extended Run to Champion Inverter

I did not use propane. Will try that another time.
