Generator ground?

Question, just got a champion generator to use on trip out west. Reading the instructions, they say that you need to drive a copper rod in the. Ground and connect with 12 gauge wire. I have used generator for many years construction site and home never saw or used a ground. Any thoughts, please, thanks

Never needed it with my Honda 2000i.

I think it's a CYA thing for the manufacturers.

Don't need it, but if you use EMS will show no ground. You need to make a neutral to ground plug.
