Generator stopped and wouldn't stay running

2015 REV RB
The Onan 2800 ran for about 20 minutes then stopped. It only ran about 1 minute and shut off again. We just had it out for the day while I made brunch.

When I got home, I got out the creeper and went underneath where the generator is located in the REV. I immediately saw oil dripping and had an "Oh crap" moment.

I took the front cover off and found the oil dipstick was completely unscrewed. I have never taken it out before, so it came that way. I guess it wasn't tight and worked it's way loose while running.

I used a picnic style ketchup squeeze bottle that I had bought as a set , but never used and filled it with 30 weight oil and it was easy to squirt oil in a little at a time then check until it was full.

Tightened it down and buttoned it all up. Fired it up and it worked!

They have a low oil shutoff built in, which is why it wouldn't stay running.

Why would one even start it without checking oil.

And it's new....all the more reason, just for personal knowledge. Need a starting reference point to tell if it uses more oil than the norm...

placement

That has to be the all-time worst placement for a generator that I have ever seen. Owners already have a poor performance rating on checking things like oil levels, and such, but putting it UNDER the coach? the designer/engineers who think this stuff up, have never had to maintain any of this.

No oil generator

Sounds like it functioned as designed. Good thing since it's a pain to get to. Is there a floor access door from the inside?

Generater

I cannot believe where it was put under the MH. How are you suppose to work on it for other problems, than just being out of oil?

Thread closed pending site team clean up of off topic posts and site guideline violations that have absolutely NOTHING to do with the OP's subject..

OK, the thread has had several posts removed, some of which had to go to keep the continuity correct. We also edited a few posts that were condescending (and are a big time no-go around here). Please post responsibly and follow all site guidelines.
