Generator Talk
Hello,
I currently have a Generic LP 5500 generator which is super loud that was mainly purchased to backup my house if I lost power. I was going to use this to power my 18' work and play but after hearing how loud it was I don't think the Generic is feasible. I know a guy who has a Honda EU3000is and he uses it to power his 28' trailer and I fell in love. I was looking for some advice as to what I could get by with as far as an overnight generator. Would 2000 watts power the trailer in the middle of winter or should I look for the 3000 watt plus models. Thanks

A 2000w inverter generator will run everything but the a/c.

Thank you for responding. This is the exact type of info I was looking for. Do you think the 3000 watt model will run the AC? I don't want to purchase a unit that won't do the job.

Can't say without knowing what a/c you have and its BTU rating.
If it's a 13.5k, 3000w should.
If it's a 15k, maybe.

There are two different Honda 3000 generators, Check actual nameplate rating. One has 3 more amps of current

I have a Yamaha EF3000iseb and it will run everything just fine. Purrs like a kitten!

Just to muddy the waters as you seem primarily concerned about cooler weather use. Another option is two 2000 series generators in parallel. When you do not need AC, you only take one. Much lighter to carry around and unless the AC is used on most of your trips, you only need to take one.

You may want to consider the Yamaha 3000iseb. It will run a constant 2800 and supply an extra 500 for 10 seconds. This will ensure that the ac will fire up. Honda currently doesn't have the 500 boost.

If you have a Progressive surge protector hard wired in, the Yammy won't work....and the Honda needs a grounding plug ($2.00)
