Go West or Bust

We're leaving for the West for 3 or 4 weeks here soon. We have been there before (without an RV) and have seen the temps can get up to 117 at times. We have a 15,000 AC on the roof but also went out and bought a portable 10,000 BTU AC. Anyone else ever used one of these to help out your AC?
Ours is a 8281WS Rockwood bunkhouse. Seems the upstairs gets a little hotter than the rest.

I'm not too familiar with that, but I think you have to make sure you are not going to draw too many amps. Will you be hooking up to a 50 amp outlet?

Yes, we've only actually made reservations in Utah (outside of Yellowstone) and in the Mt Rushmore area and both have 50 amp service for us.
We're not so worried about any place else because we'll just be staying over night on the trip out and back. Our RV is new and we're hoping the AC will be fine for those nights. Just thought since we'll be camping for 6 nights at each other place, we would help it out a bit and use that.

Perhaps run an extension cord out to the site's power center directly.

Our friends had one of those in their Stationary 5th wheel in Florida. It work better than the 13,500 unit on the roof. Much quieter too.

temperatures near Mt Rushmore

Temperatures near Mt Rushmore are usually not very warm due to the elevation. I checked July temperatures for last year and the average high was 80 degrees and the maximum high was 93 degrees. The average low is 47 degrees so a sweater after sundown is often desirable.

On our 38' Wildcat we put on a second 13.5k A/C to help out the 15k unit. The 15k didn't keep up when it got over 90#and with both running it was fine. So with the portable unit it will take the temp on the hot days.

Enjoy your trip....

Enjoy, a lot of interesting and beautiful areas.
PS. Take a roll or two quarters. Some campgrounds have pay showers
Better prepared than looking for change

I don't think that you will need AC near Mt Rushmore or Yellowstone.

117degrees for Death Valley maybe, but nowhere close to that elsewhere. Yellowstone is alot farther north and not that hot.( I'm a life long west USA'er.)

We just returned from a 5 week trip out to the Grand Canyon and all 5 of the National Parks in Utah. We did not have to worry about our a/c but heat, as we had several snow storms. It was a great trip and southern Utah is beautiful. we went early to avoid the crowds. We were at Zion NP on Mothers day and could not even find a parking spot in the park, but we found an RV park just outside the park and were able to ride the shuttle buses.

117º anywhere in CA or AZ is unheard of the 1st week of June. Don't think the OP was planning his trip there this week
