Going Diesel

After much consideration wife and I have decided to trade the 2500 6.0 gas burner (great truck) for a 2015 Ram 2500 6.7 to tow our 34ft vlite with. Just thought I'd feel better towing in the mountains with an exhaust break. Although we live on the gulf coast. I'm in the car business, so I've got that part figured out. But, we only have a year and a half under our rv belt. Am I overlooking anything?

Seems like overkill. I've thought this myself and realized that I personally would not want a vehicle that large for running around town when not towing. Have you considered looking at a Ford F-150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and max tow package? Would pull that with no problems I'm sure and in tow/haul mode it will use the transmission to hold back the vehicle on down hill runs.

Don't want to get into a debate about trucks with others. Just my opinion. The Ecoboost creates max torque at such a low rpm, its wonderful to tow with. Good luck to you in whatever you choose.

Wait for it.... Wait for it....

LOL!! I will say I am still learning the Diesel thing but I will never go back after pulling our trailer almost 6,000 miles so far this year, 4000 with the new 2500. Its like the trailer is not even there.

Exactly, plus better gas mileage, I am getting 13.6 towing and 24 mpg while not, compared to my gasser that I traded in, at 8mpg towing and 12 not towing. I have increased my gas mileage 50% while towing, and 100% not towing. I will never go back as long as I am towing.

You will never go back to a gas job after pulling with the diesel. Go to Goshen Indiana. You'll see hundreds of rv haulers and you will not see 1 gas job.

If you pull exclusively. Yes, go with the diesel. A few thousand miles a year? I'd stick with gas.

You have to ask yourself, what do you do 95% of the time with your truck?

That's what they do for their lively hood. They pull TTs exclusively. It's a work truck.

Not so. I have been a hauler for 10 years. I have 2 diesels and when they aren't working they are drivers. I have more miles on my trucks than any recreational tower and diesel is the way to go. Anyway as pointed out, we are beating a dead horse. The original question was "am I missing anything ". How about a nice slip tank. That way when you come across cheap fuel you can fill up to use in areas where fuel is pricey.

Like I paid 1.49 a gallon for Diesel in Goshen the other day, I wish I would have had a 100 gallon tank to fill as well, it is 2.65 a gallon when I got home.

$1.49? Where the heck was that? I was just there yesterday and the cheapest I could find was $2.29 at speedway. I'll be back there on Friday.

Congratulations on the new truck!

I am also a member of TDR. Com which is a forum dedicated to the RAM/ Cummins trucks from the early first gens to the latest 4th gen trucks. This forum provides several features that the other Cummins forums do not provide. This is not a free site it does cost $35 a year, so the members on this site are not your usual kids trying to break the truck.

The benefits are; you get a quartile magazine with articles on the current trucks and general information on what oil's to use and filters. The forum also provides the Turbo Diesel Buyer's Guide, Rams Diagnostic Trouble Codes and the meaning behind each one and TSB updates for some of the member only befits.

Here is a link to check them out; you can also ask for a free magazine to review. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/

Go Diesel, my gasser got 8 pulling, my Cummin's gets 18. The one ton dully has better braking ability too. The only reason we keep our gasser is for our daughters to hual horses to local shows with a small bumper pull and when we bring our horses to a big shows that we need both trailers.
