Golf cart questions

I'm think about getting a 2009 Yamaha electric golf cart. I know it will be to long to fit in my 5.5 truck bed with the tailgate up. But any suggestions?

What to look for when buying ... What size ramps are needed to get it the bed of the pickup ... Can I lift the rear of the golf cart high enought to close the tailgate?

I had an ezgo and it would fit only with tailgate down.

My Yamaha GC is basically 4X8. I transport it on a Harbor Freight trailer behind the 5'r.

Couple of things...

1, will you put yourself over your rear axle weight if you also carry a golf cart in addition to the to the weight of your camper?

2, towing a trailer behind a camper is usually only legal if your camper is a fifth wheel *and* only in certain states (very few east coast states allow it).

3, I saw a neat bed cover that actually let you carry your UTV on top of it. The cover itself is gonna be heavy, but it's something to consider especially since you have a short bed.

4, I've seen people loop/hook their tailgate cables over the latching posts to keep the tailgate at an angle. Don't know if you're going to need at part of the golf cart on the tailgate itself, though.

A friend of mine used to take the tailgate off and the cart stuck out the back a little. This was dodge QC shortbed but the cart also had rear seating which made it a little longer. I'd be worried about the front tires of the truck staying on the ground with that much weight in the box combined with the tongue weight of the trailer.

Just got my Club Car this weekend. I purchased a pair of Aluminum arched ramps from Farm & Ranch Pair of Arched Aluminum Loading Ramps, 12 in. W x 90 in. L - Tractor Supply Online Store rated @ 1500lbs for $120. Held the cart well.
You will never lift that cart up, my 4 X 12v setup weighs 855lbs. You would be over 1000lbs with a 6 X 8V setup.

My buddy has a short bed Ram 1500. He winches his up the ramps backwards and has the front wheels on the tailgate during travel. He fab'd some metal brackets to use instead of the cables (does not trust them) for the tail gate. Uses those brackets for the golf cart travel only. He also had to remove the jack and welded a receiver to his frame to accept a removable jack. He had to move the bottles back, bring battery forward but he now clears everything with the gate open.
My cart is 91.25" X 47.25". I have 98" with my long bed tail gate closed. The rear seat I am going to buy has a fold up footrest so I can still fit the cart with the gate up. That might be an option for you if you add the rear seat.

DW wanted a golf cart too, but it wouldn't fit in the back of my '08 F250 V10 due to the 6' bed being too short, and I didn't have the payload on my F250 to haul a golf cart anyway. I didn't want to get rid of my V10, but in the interest of keeping my DW happy (which is always a good idea), I started looking for a 1 ton with an 8' bed. Luckily, I was able to find an '08 F350 V10. Not sure how much payload you have on your TV, checca, but an electric golf cart is gonna add somewhere in the neighborhood of an additional 1k lbs (those batteries are pretty heavy).

As far as shutting the tailgate with the cart in the bed, we roll the back tires up on a 2x6 board to lift the rear end of the cart enough to clear the tail gate. We picked up a set of 1500 lb rated ramps from our local Tractor Supply store, which stow underneath the cart when we're traveling. Here's a pic of our set up the first time we were testing everything:

I have a 2007 Yamaha electric golf cart with the back seat and the platform to put your feet on and when I have it in the toy hauler that has a 11 foot garage I have about a foot in the front and back of the golf cart. I measured my golf cart and it is 9 feet long. If the cart you are looking at has the back seat and platform on it I do not believe you will be able to haul it in the bed of your truck.

Well I put it in the bed of my pickup tonight. The back went down 1 1/2". But way to long for my tundra 5.5 foot bed ... The rear tires are half way on the tailgate and the rear bumper of the golf cart is even with the rear of the tail gate.




Didn't buy it.
