I'm looking into the GEM car myself.
I hate noise/smell of the gas models. Electric means batteries, and maintaining/replacing when necessary. (or winterizing)
Drawbacks to them all I guess.
GEM cars are made right here in ND, and I really like their versatility. (plus..I don't golf)

NDJollMon, here are the two that we have left. The first two pic is a utility style truck like and the next two pic is a 4 seat model. The 4 seat model had 4 doors on it but every time we turn a corner the doors would fly open, so we had to take them off. The other problem we have with the 4 seat models is that the front tires are wearing on the inside and there is no way to align the front end, but as you can see that the wear is on the out side and that's because we rotated the tires. The GEM Cars are a different breed then the Club Car and the E-Z-go, the GEM Cars are street legal they do a top speed of 25 mph and can be tagged. They have everything from seat belts to turn signals and use 7 batteries@ $175.00 each.

Thanks for the GEM info. Good to know! Maybe I'll steer back toward EZ GO myself. While I hate the louder/polluting golf carts...it may be a less expensive option. All those batteries worry me in maintenance troubles. It gets really cold here...and all my batteries are stored indoors during winter. I already have enough! :-)

I just found out to day that these GEM cars cost approx $8,000 to $10,000 new...They are not worth it.
I did go on line to GOLF CART WOLESALERS....there you can buy a 2006 golf cart for $1,825 used, it comes with a 90 day warrenty and will ship for free. According to the reviews it takes about a week for shipping. The carts are reconditioned and some say they look like new.

OK, I Did It...........

Here is a pic of my new toy. The pic was taken in the show room last Monday. I pick up the cart the next day after I had a black top installed with a split tinted windshield, front and rear light package and a high speed chip. I plan on taking It back to have a lift kit installed with 12" wheels and tires and maybe a few other things as well.

Electric 36 volt, 15 to 18 miles an hour. 2003 model completely reconditioned wiring and all. Batteries load tested for 113 minutes, high speed chip, Creager S/S wheel covers, custom body the flames are air brushed with black seat and a 60 day warranty. The pic of the cart was still in the showroom and the price as you see it.....$3,000 I posted another pic with add ons Under "MY TOY WITH ADD ONS" which came out to $3,600. I bought the cart from GOLF CART SERVICES in PA, Great people to deal with.

I watched an article on GMA this morning about tax credits on street legal electric golf carts.....up to $6000 depending on the battery power. I couldn't find the video clip, but here is an older article:

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/golf-...ory?id=8875161

Just an FYI for those of you thinkn' about such a puppy. I think they said the incentive goes off 12/31/09.
