Good neighbors are hard to find. The next door neighbor was good as gold and they moved about ten miles away and still very good neighbors

I have had great and bad. I miss the great ones that moved away and still go and visit them.
The ones that just moved last week only called the HOA about my trailer and barely said hi. Hoping for more great neighbors now that the party poopers moved away.
When I really miss the good neighbors I just go camping and enjoy the temporary ones.

Good neighbors and good friends are priceless.
Current top of my list is a guy I met at a deer camp years ago. I got invited to join an existing group and hit it off. Went back every year for almost 20 years until the owner passed. About half way thru I became camp cook. Anyway, one of the other regulars was a baby face guy who was a county sheriff. In between deer seasons, we occasionally met at a gun club for steak dinners, which we have continued to do. At one of these dinners, we were talking about traveling with the RV and how I was looking for ways to be able to park it at home due to all the stories I've read about theft at storage lots. Well, he said "why don't you park it at my place, happy to let you put it there. I've got 8 acres and it won't be in my way.." I asked what he would want for rent and he said "no charge"!
He won't take any money from me, so I keep looking for ways to compensate him. Best thing, is having a cop as security guard on my trailer!
BTW, if you are in SE Mich and need a snow blower or lawn mower, let me know - my storage guy picks up discarded units, rebuilds them and puts them up for sale. If you buy one and have problems with it - he will happily let you pick a different unit or refund your money...

I will add to the thread.
I had an elderly lady for a neighbor and her 30 something son who lived with her. I used to snowblow their driveway cause he was supposedly disabled and she was in no shape to be shoveling.
Did it for years, so one day he has a shed built in his front yard behind a six foot fence neither which he pulled a permit for. Did not matter to me, not my property. Well it seems some one else complained. Now I am his only neighbor that can see his front yard so it was someone who drives by.
We have no HOA but they called the township so the building inspector stops by and says both the fence and the shed got to go. They were built with no permits and not far enough from the house.
We'll he comes over and tells me about it and that he is going to fight it. He wants to know if I will go and speak up for him as again I am the only neighbor who can see his front yard. I think sure why the he double toothpicks not.
Well after the hearing the fence and shed still have to come down.
Fast forward a month later and I am walking out my front door and look over to the shed and fence wondering when it might come down. When I see smoke coming from the roof vents. No one's car is in the drive way but I bang on the door any way while I am calling the fire Dept.
Fast forward again, dude was cooking and left the house with a pot still on the stove with the burner on. Some fire but mostly smoke. While securing the area the cops got into the shed and found several plants that can enhance ones mood and give them the munchies.
He disappeared for awhile and when he finally showed up I let him know how unhappy I was going to bat for him and then finding out about his gardening skills.
He eventually moved on and another family bought the house. They had some young kids same age as my son and they used to play together. Fast forward again and the kids are grown and driving.
When I was growing up I had to work on my own car often in the rain, mud, snow heat as we had no garage. When we bought our house I wanted an over sized garage witha heater and huge doors on the front and back for air circulation in the warmer weather which I have all that now.
The neighbors don't so every time I saw the kid that my son used to play, work on his car with I would offer up my garage. Over the course of a year I offered probably three times. On the fourth time the kids started screaming and cussing he did not want to use my garage.
Now i just look and wave to them

I've come home from work numerous times when it had snowed, to find my driveway, walks, deck, all shoveled off. My neighbor is retired...and just turned 70, but still gets out there before I get home. If we have a snow on a weekend or evening, I try to get out with my snowblower and hit his drive and walks before he does. Gotta return the favor.

We have some good neighbors. One is in his 90s. We now pretty much just check on him. Another is in his 50s. We always check on each other, help when someone needs it, etc. We stop and talk, when we are outside to catch up on the families, etc. It is always comforting to know that neighbors like this are still around.
Yes, we have questionable neighbors, also. Then there is the majority, which don't pay attention to anyone but themselves. Most will wave, when waved to, but quite a few actually look away, when waved at. Oh, well...I'm still thankful for the few good ones we have.

We have great neighbors. One lets me use his rowboat to go crabbing. We get together with some every so often. If snow or ice is in the forecast, we let them park below our house so they don't have to drive out a steep driveway.
They let our grands sled down their driveway when there's snow.
The post office won't deliver packages to our door so another neighbor lets them drop them off and they call us when they're delivered.

When we get snow, I usually use my 42" garden tractor mounted snow blower to clear the road in front of my house and two of the neighbors. My neighbors take care of our dog and cat while we are on vacation. We mow each others lawns when there is a special need. I have a construction site generator that can run the furnaces to keep all three houses from freezing up if we have a power outage. If I have questions about my vehicles, I talk to Joe next door, he use to build stock cars. On the other hand, the guy on the other side of my house won't even talk to any of us. I have both kinds of neighbors.

Today my neighbor interjected himself into my garage to ask me why the F$#& I have a travel trailer parked in front of my house today. I informed him it was out of storage and in front of my house so I could do some work on it, and it would return to storage Sunday. My neighbor responded by telling me the municipal regulations governing RVs parked on a city street. This was the FIRST time I had ever parked our “new to us” trailer in front of our house. My neighbor didn’t even congratulate us on our addition to the family. Instead we got a lecture on information we already know and rules we religiously abide by. Thanks Gary, happy holidays to you too, you jerk.

Darn shame we can park ours in front of our home for no more then a week. We usually pick up sat or sun and leave fri, That’s HOA rules. The town requires if it’s towable to always have its tow vehicle attached.

The best neighbors of all are those I find at campgrounds. Yet, even at campgrounds, there are the occasional neighbors who will pretend nobody exists but them — people who will pretend they didn’t see you wave to them and go out of their way to not make eye contact.

We have a neighbour everybody would want. He watches our house when we go away for up to 3 months, camping. Takes in the mail and cuts the grass. If he gets out before I do, he shovels the snow. He'll bring my garbage cans to the back of the house. He cuts the newly widowed neighbour's grass for her and trims her bushes. He came over late this summer and helped me clay bar my large dually and then we waxed it together. Now I do things for him but I'm not talking about me. The other day we were talking and he bends down and gives me a hug. Now I don't mind that because I was a Fire Fighter for 35 years and we hugged a lot, on the job, as probably any FFr would tell you . He does other things for me and other neighbours and it would become a book if I continued on, He's about 20 years or so younger than I and it's a great pleasure to know him, to like him and to have him live next door.

We have great neighbors all around us. Everyone is willing to pitch in and help if another needs it. I never responded to the original post because that is a typical thing that would happen in our neighborhood.
One neighbor in particular is over the top nice. He is just over half my age with a great family and 4 small children. This is his first house that isn’t a town home where maintenance is taken care of for you. His house was a foreclosure that needed a little work. I’ve helped him with a lot of repairs, as well as with car repairs. Almost every time I help him, his mom, who lives about 10 miles away, makes my wife and I some of the most delicious Dominican food I’ve ever had. I don’t help for the food, but it doesn’t hurt!
Another neighbor has a plow on his truck. While I usually clear my own driveway, he will come around and plow the huge pile of heavy stuff the town plows leave in front of our driveways. This is after he’s been plowing all day. Again, this is simply what we do in our neighborhood.

Now I do someone wonderful neighbors also. One is actually not a neighbor but lives about 2 miles away. I met him doing some volunteer computer work for seniors.
We were in KY once with a friend of my sons watching the dog and they locked their keys in the our house. I called him up and he was able to get into the house via a small basement window and dropping to floor then opening the door with car keys in hand.
He is one those guys that when you need someone in your corner he is the first one to step up and last one to leave.
