Got an RV over 5 years old?

There is a thread here on FR and RV quality in general and that it's not so good.

So if you have, or have had, an RV over 5 years old, how well did it age? Did things fall off (cabinet doors, etc) as it got older? Do older campers leak more? Did your wheels fall off on the road, frame crack, appliances or A/C die?

So is it true that RVs are being built at the minumum quality possible and they won't last, or are they just fine it's the assembly that leaves something to be desired and after those issues are addresses you get a lifetime of use and happiness from them?

I just traded my 5 year old 829FKSS. 1 day/night shade had a issue, 1 small decorative piece of a valance had become detatched, and the luan on the back side of the dinette had become unglued. All normal stuff IMO in something that travels, vibrates, and has been used. That's it besides normal maintenance and wear items. FR builds a very good product from my experience. So good, I bought another, a new V-Lite.

I traded my 2003 Cherokee last July. Replaced the tires and awning fabric 2 months before I traded it. Never had any problems with anything else. It looked almost brand new when I got rid of it.

We have a 2003 Salem LE 25RKS and love it. We have had to replace plastic outside from dry rot and the wife made curtains so we could take down the blinds. The roof and seams have been taken care of with either RTV or Putty tape so leaks are not a problem.
Had to replace the awning this year it had weathered and last trip out the handle broke on it.
Not much else that is not part of normal maintenance.
Ready to go again!

My Cedar Creek is 7 years old and the only thing I have had go wrong other than routine maintenance items is one blind I had to restring. Quality is on par with any other RV on the road today and probably better than most.

Traded my o6 flagstaff 832bhss last fall.
6 years old.
Replaced converter.
Needed new roof vents.
Replaced battery twice.

Imo those are all things added not made by fr so the trailer its self @ six years old happened to be great.

Its all about how you take care of it and how much you use it. Whether it is stored inside when not in use can make a world of difference on how much it ages. I keep mine stored indoors when not in use and just traded my 03 Jayco fiver off last year and it still shined like new, even had the original tires with no dry rot or cracking. Only thing I had to do to it was replace the electric rod in the water heater as it quit heating. My dad always told me you get out of something what you put into it.

Mine is 15 yrs old. Got it in February, it was a one owner on a permanent site. Whenever something went wrong it was fixed. It also never had any children in it. It has newer wh, AC, and converter. Imo its how you take care of it as it ages.

On another brand side of things, my parents have a '06 Crossroads Cruiser 29RL 5er and 2 years ago the rubber roof tore off for about 25% of the roof while they were driving down the highway (which the warranty wouldn't cover for some reason). This unit is stored on plywood sheets on concrete in a 84'x40' insulated pole barn and dad inspects it every spring. The converter fried about 4 years ago, and the side doors haven't latched properly for a few years now.

...I told him to go buy a FR 5er this fall, lol.

While camping a few weeks ago I spoke with two owners of FR Roo's similar to mine. One had a 2007 Roo 19 and another had a 2009 Roo 233. Both said they've had no major problems and had nothing but good things to say about their Roos.

Sold our 2003 Chalet Arrowhead last year before buying our 2104 Mini Lite.
Some of the floor on the Chalet had turned to mush, and I had to cut out a portion of it, weld in new supports, and install some marine grade plywood. Why they used OSB for an RV floor I'll never know (OK, it's cheaper)

After one year, we're very happy with our 2104.
