My V-10 X started to get that kind of mileage, then I switched to 93 octane and it went back up to 7.5mpg. When they started messing with the ethanol in the gas it killed mileage and power! I filled up in Wisconsin back then with pure gas and it was unbelievable how much more power I had and my mileage was back up in the upper 7's. I now average 7.8mpg with an air deflector on my roof and the 5 star tuner.

But good for you on the new TV. When the time comes if we don't by a class A gas or diesel I will probably go to a Ram Mega Cab with a Cummins!

I've already got paid back.. We've travel 1000's of miles of the country and done / seen amazing things. That is payback enough for me.

Shop around, I would post a picture of the asking price on my new 2015 RAM 3500 DRW diesel, if I knew how . But most folks wouldn't want my truck but for the price I love it. Pretty much what I wanted.

Why not? If someone can put a fiver hitch on a Beetle, why not a Vette. You have to admit, it would have the pulling power!

You will not regret going diesel, no matter what brand you buy. I went with a 2014 RAM 3500 (slightly used), when I started looking I wasn't sure what brand I was going to buy until I found the one I wanted. I pull a 34 foot wildcat and love it, I get 12 to 13 Mpg, mountains no problem (up or down), I have the EB. Best decision I have made when it comes to vehicles.

Forgot to mention my mileage was 11.6 coming home on the same roads, I will make my money back easily with diesel prices being down again and the overall mileage increase I get even unloaded, but not why I bought it, bought it for the power and comfort. Way nicer truck than what I need but I love it and it is the first vehicle I bought that I did not have buyers remorse.

Instead of trying to find a hitch so you can tow something with the vette, why don't you just make it a 4 on the floor TOAD?

What payback period are you talking about? The diesel is more expensive initially, but you get most of that back when you trade it or sell it. When mileage goes up 50% the maintenance cost is a wash.

Well, I can't find the towing capacity specs for your car here:
https://www.chevrolet.com/content/da...ring-Guide.pdf

But I'm going to guess that it's because you got the gas, instead of diesel model. I suspect a diesel 'vette would pull a boat load of rhinoceri.

I'd need air bags...two inches of squat puts me on the pavement .

You're right! I just traded in my 2010 Solera diesel class c for a 2017 Ford E-450 class c. Both 24 footers. In my case paying $10k to $15k more for a diesel made no sense. Because I only put 20k miles on my Solera in 6 years my fuel savings over that time wasn't even $1500. Plus, it could tow only 3500 lbs, whereas the E-450 is rated to 10,000 (although 5,000 is all I need). The new E-450 also has a new 6-speed transmission which improves pulling power and fuel mileage. So that's why I was curious about the OP's payback period for the diesel upcharge. But I also understand there are many considerations, pros and cons when choosing gas or diesel, including overall fuel savings, pulling power or just feeling good about your choice.

Very nice! I don't have a truck but that's why I purchased my Class C Solera with the diesel engine. Pay up front, or pay as you go. I intend to go alot! The diesel is better for all my mountainous driving and will hold it's value more.

Ps- I have done 19,000 miles in my Solera in two years. Plus gas is expensive in Calif.

You'll love your new diesel. In early March we found a terrific deal on a new 2015 EcoDiesel. Because it sat on the lot for a year we got it for $12,000 off MSRP. We now get 16 mpg towing our 6000+ pound Wildwood and have plenty of power to spare. I'll never go back to a gas truck

when you double your fuel economy, it's not hard to figure out that the extra money you might have spent for the diesel is returned quickly. After that, it's a gain. Not to mention the diesel truck is always worth much more than an equivalent gas model. That money for the diesel option is never lost.

Got tired of the fuel mileage

What did you have before ?? I got 7.5 going to Wisconsin from Chicago and then 11.5 from Wisconsin to Chicago .... Weird.

I must be doing something wrong because I have never got fuel mileage like that. I had a 2500 towing a 5000lb travel trailer and never got close to that. Anyway I just keep the tank full
