Don't even think about it! Regardless if you think it's all biodegradable...last thing I want coming into a campsite following you is to come across a site where the person has dumped...how do I know what you are dumping? Kind of disgusting for the camper coming in after you. Get yourself a portable holding tank if you need to, most places have a dump station on the way out. This has been discussed at great length in here, doing a search will come up with conversations you can follow to see peoples for or against. Some will pipe up in here telling you to go ahead and do it....most parks will frown upon it, and even kick you out for doing it.

No way, and illegal in many states. Would you do it in your backyard?

How do you guarantee that there is NO food pieces in the Gray water, even using eco friendly products?
Because doing what you're talking about, will attract bugs and animals for the next camper.

Every Western public campground I've been in, bans such behavior.

If I'm at a private campground, I'd never think of it. If I'm at a state park, I'd run the hose into the woods and let it flow.

But emphasize, grey water only. And after dark.

I would not want the stench of the grey water at my site.

Good way to cut your visit to that campground short. No one wants to pull into a site where previous person dumped their grey water on the ground.

Just be honest here......how would you like pulling into a campsite that you dumped your tank on instead of disposing the proper way?

Honest now 🤔

I bought a Trailer with 90 gallons of grey water storage. That can and has lasted us 6 days with navy showers for 2. If you are careful you can stretch your stays. We also have a tote that we did use often with the older fiver to stretch stays.

off topic: Anyone ever ever notice a lot of grey water valves tend to not turn off quite all the way? And also the cap doesn’t quite click on completely tight? Always seems to cause a tiny little drip at the cap, damn cheap rvs [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I haven't noticed this at all on our last couple units.

I have always found this grey water topic interesting. Especially since we boondock 100% of the time. When we camped out of a tent. There were no holding tanks. We did dishes, took showers, everything drained on the ground. Not in the middle of camp but off to the side.
I assume in a camp ground dumping any tanks on the ground would be completely unacceptable. But out boondocking, What is the difference from what tent campers do? And before Someone starts looking for a rope. I’m talking about dumping grey water. Not the black tank.

dumping gray water

I think the difference between tent campers dumping gray water and a trailer dumping gray water is the amount of food particles in a 30 to 50 gallon RV gray tank, verses a 2 gallon tub used for washing dishes or a sponge bath,Also the fact that a gray tank in an RV takes time to fill, giving it time to ferment and become real nasty smelling

Where is this "food particle" stuff coming from?

My gray tanks don't have any food particles. If so, they're microscopic. Get a sink strainer, for goodness sakes. I don't get it.

I do NOT dump my gray tanks. But I'd not hesitate for minute to dump it in my yard at the farm (no close neighbors) if I needed to (I don't usually). I think some of y'all are the ones scared to actually use your camper toilets!

I agree with Bill, use strainer in your sink to catch any food particles , but that is the galley tank, There will never be any thing in the gray tank accept water and soap,

Many Georgia State Parks have grey water dumps along the campground roads. Usually a large pipe or barrel filled with gravel. While at Cloudland Canyon SP a few years back, I inquired about them. The Ranger advised I could dump my onboard grey water in one but I must control the flow as to not overflow the pipe. I used an 18 gallon tote and just cracked the dump valve. Again, that was a few years back.

Yep! Many places allow it.
Mistletoe State Park has barrels buried every 5 or 6 campsites. If you want to dump Grey water just check with management and if they ok it, then dump away.
If you don't want to dump that is ok too.
The world won't end either way.

gray water dumping is not the big bugaboo to everybody that it is to some folks, ... I've read posts of cg's in especially dry areas that are happy for you to run a hose to a near by tree and feed it with gray water, ... sure, it's important to practice good cg behavior, and to leave a wet mud puddle right at your site is certainly not appreciated, but a hose away from the site works, ... we've been to two different cg that allowed it, one actually had a gray water dump for each site, ... appeared to be a large can or barrel buried in the ground, filled with gravel and I assume the bottoms were removed, ... so, although some people think its an awful thing to do, not everyone does, ...
