Great campground views

Photos are us and our friends at the new mountaintop section of Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in Swannanoa, NC. We thought they were first-class accommodations with big yards, balconies, porch swings and patio furniture. It was a lot like pulling into a scenic overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, except for the full hookups and the option to stay for as long as you can afford it, which is not long at $70/night, but the views were worth it, and the landscaping at this park is impeccable. Owners do it all themselves.

Beautiful. Did they have a playground for the little ones?

No playground other than an area for tetherball and horseshoes, both located somewhat out of earshot of the camping sites. There are also a couple of pinball machines near the office, plus a pretty good exercise room limited to those 18 and above. No swimming pool.

Campgrounds that cater to kids are great because camping is a wonderful family activity, but this is one that is more geared for folks who enjoy the noise of mountain breezes rustling through the trees and wooded streams trickling over rocks. However, kids are quite welcome.

There is tent camping deep in the woods and about 5 really nice cabins located right on a mountain stream.
