Great weekend....however
Had a great weekend at kings dominion, the park was great, very clean, plenty of staff ect, the campground was the same. Actually I dont think I have stayed in a cleaner campground, they even had one gentleman riding around all day picking up trash, emptying all the trash cans, bathhouses were very clean, lots were great! Overall I have to say if you have the chance go for it. Now, on the otherhand, I have never seen so many rude inconsiderate campers in my entire life! Our sites were great, and really large but very close to the bath house. We had so many people and kids cutting through our lots all weekend it was ridiculous. Even had kids running between my camper and my neighbors camper jumping over water lines ect. I finally went to the parents and advised them them needed to keep there kids from running through the campers it was unsafe. I got so tired of asking people not to walk through, and advising the cabin campers is was very rude to cut through a campsite I gave up! While I was fueling up my truck my wife was sitting outside with our dogs, under our awning, when a older lady came walking through, practicly under our awning and walking around our grill, and had the nerve to tell one of my dogs to hush when she started barking at her , my wife is too nice and didnt say anything, me, it would not have been so good! I still get aggrevated by the thought of all these people! Maybe I am wrong and its ok to cut through campsites disturbing people!

No I don't think it's ok to cut through other peoples campsites. To me that's like cutting through their yard at home and really just rude.

I'm perturbed by that activity too. Unacceptable in my books, unless invited.

I think it's unacceptable, but unfortunately there are (and always will be) folks like that out there.

Carry extra rope for a snare line next time. Maybe people will get it after hanging upside down for a bit.

I have experienced this too and it drives me crazy. Some people just don't realize while many people don't care. Sometimes there's less of this when the site boundaries are clearly marked but only to a certain point.
Except for the rude people it sounds like you had a good time camping.

I completely understand deerslayer. Check out this review I wrote in another thread.

Brialee Campground Ashford, CT My experience:
I camped here June 8th-10th and I had a not so great experience. I usually camp in state forests where you have some privacy. We were stuck in sites right near the pool and rec hall. The sites were small and right on top of each other. The only good thing about the camp sites are the fire pits which are large stones, instead of small fire rings which you usually find at campgrounds. I found most of the staff to be friendly and they have an awesome horse shoe pit area. Now here are the reasons that will not have me coming back.
1. The # 1 reason is who I assume is the campground manager/security officer. We arrived in the evening on Friday and after setting up and eating dinner and putting the kids to sleep myself and my cousin decided to take a walk (we were very quiet) to get acclimated to our surroundings and stretch our legs. It was about 10:45 when we left the site. After about 15-20 minutes on our walk we were passed by at least 20 golf carts with people drinking, smoking, and being LOUD. We were walking peacefully around the campground and we were stopped by a security golf cart. The man was rude and demanded to know our site #'s. After giving our site #’s, I told him we were just taking a walk around to get used to the grounds. We are all adults and I didn’t appreciate the treatment. What happened next really surprised me. In 28 years of camping I have never heard this. "You are not allowed to be off your site after 11 and need to return to your sites immediately." WHAT? Are we prisoners? Are we criminals? This guy was just another power hungry Ass*&^% who just needs to pick on people. BTW the golf carts are only for members and they ride their carts constantly till about 1am with no regard for sleeping campers. OH and the best part is when we got back to our site they had sent the camp diesel pick up/dump truck to make sure we were back on our site. It sat there with its headlights on our site waking up my wife and baby with the engine running for about 15 minutes before speeding off. It was actually kind of scary, like something you would see in a horrormovie.
2. The campers are not respectful. We had rapmusic blasting in the sites next to us all weekend and the parents let their kids continuously ride their bikes thru our sites next to my camper and our tents. Even though I asked them politely on several occasions to stop. The campground is not at fault for these people’s actions, but it does say something to the type of crowd they draw. Mostly rude party people with no respect.
3. The bath rooms smelled disgusting and should have been cleaned better. Didn’t take a shower since I was grossed out.
4. On the first night after we were escorted back to our sites there were 3 really, really, really drunk women parading around the campground (about 1-4 am) They were swearing and screaming and taking flash photography of each other removing their clothing in the pool/playground area. FAMILY CAMPGROUND????? For three hours they woke up campers who were yelling "SHUT THE HELL UP" from their campsites. Not once did this security guard go over and tell them to go back to their sites (seasonals perhaps?).
Overall I think this place has the potential to be a nice campground, but it is not there yet. They have a lot to learn about what it means to camp and enjoy the great outdoors and to be with family. They really should change the name to Brialee Party Resort as this paints a more accurate picture.

I hate when people cut through my campsite, it's one of the many reasons we go to state parks. It seems like it happens a lot less there. I honestly don't know what they are thinking when they do it.

This happens a lot at the state parks I've stayed at in California.

I usually camp in NH state parks and no one cuts thru our sites there.
I wanted to go to a family campground since it was my first trip of the year with my newborn. I thought hookups would make it much easier. Boy was I wrong. I would rather have not had water or electic then put up with the BS at that place.
My family has recommended some better places in New England to camp which are not state parks. Ill give it a go.

Sounds like the only down side to the op camping trip was a small group of people. Even with some of the cons there are many more pros when it comes to camping.

Let me know if you find some good place in NE.. We actually stayed at Brialee back in May and it was ok. Could have been because it wasn't busy yet..

We have a seasonal site with a deck. We have a screen room and the dog fence up. We have had grownups walk across our deck with a drink in their hand on their way to visit friends and another site. We asked one woman to stop cutting across our site and you would think we were asking her to commit a crime. When we explain that we all are renting the land that the TT is sitting on and it is no different then owning a piece of property with a house on it they seem to be more receptive. the owner of the CG are great. If the people do not stop cutting across the site the owners will talk to the trespassers and explain the common rules of camping.
