Heading to the Greensboro RV show - The Review

We are headed out later today to the Greensboro RV show. Last year we almost got into trouble and bought a new Rockwood that we really liked, but came to our senses and left it there. Saw the same rig in the Flagstaff flavor at the DC show but still managed to leave it there. Wonder what temptations will come our way this year?

Thanks Mike. Weather is good today so it will be a pleasant trip. I'll give a full report tonight or tomorrow after we return.

If you see something new or different there, photos would be nice.

Well we went, we looked, we came home. This year's show did not have anything that reached out and said bring me home. Thank goodness. I took the camera but did not see anything I have not already seen. I saw a lot of different manufacturer's have now picked up on the floor plan Mike posted above. There were at least a half dozen similar models this year from as many manufacturers, but the Rockwood/Flagstaff version is still the best one in our opinion. There was one Wildcat model with it but it was not as nice as the Rockwood that was on display. Yes, one dealer had a Rockwood at the show but all we did was sit in it a while (mainly to rest).

It appears that closet space is almost non-existent in most of the models at this particular show. The larger the unit, the less closet space was in them. Mostly a small shirtsize ward beside each bed and nothing else.

Bathrooms continue to be small for the most part, although a few have started putting an angled shaped one in the center instead of a rectangular box. These actually had more space the more traditional ones, primarily due to there being nothing on the other side of the passageway between front and back except the outside wall.

One feature I saw that I had not seen before, and I'm not sure it is all that good, is a door on one side of the bed of front bedroom units that opens upward so you can drop dirty clothes into a clothes basket located in the outside storage compartment. Looks like you could lose some outside storage space with this gimmick.

This has grown to be a fairly large show. We have learned to only go into units that interest us to conserve energy. That left out bunkhouse models, of which the overwhelming majority of travel trailers were, fifth wheels because we don't own a truck, pop-ups, and the other huge representation, motorhomes. This year almost all of the large motorhomes were outside, leaving the main building for trailers. Two other smaller buildings had a mix of units.

Overall it was an average show in our opinion. Nothing remotely interested us this time, and the Rockwood or Flagstaff equivalent will just have to wait a while longer.

Kim, thanks for the report.

We went to a local RV show last Sept and found a unit(5er) we really like. If it weren't for my present 1/2 ton TV, we probably would have bought it.
Maybe next year.

So, being you didn't buy today, how about my request for the $$$.

Well, if I had the $$$ then I would have come home and called my local dealer and told him to get the one he has in stock ready to go.

His price will be at least 5K under the best "Show Price"

I noticed some of the Forest River products had Magnavox TV's in them instead of Concertone. Also, is Venture another name for Concertone or have they found another really cheap TV for their trailers?

Venture, or Venturer??

Venturer is a Canadian based company selling electronics built in China. They produce and sell DVD players, LCD TVs and Home Theater Systems.

It may have been Venturer. Not sure on that, but it did not have Concertone on it.

Just did a little surfing.
Looks like Forest River is replacing their Concertone line with Venturer.
