Unhappy Heated Mattress Issues

We were camping over 4th of July weekend in Northern Michigan and it was quite cool. We decided to use the heated mattress. Well, the next morning my son asked why there was a fifty cent piece burned mark/hole in his sheets. Yes, the heated mattress had burned a hole in the through the sheet and into the mattress. This is scary-he could have have been hurt. This camper is very new to us and has worried me about the safety of the mattress. Everyone just beware that this could happen. When I called River Forest, they assured me that this is what should have happened-if the mattress fails. That the fire should not go any further and should put it self out-exactly like it did. This did not make me feel any better-and looking at hole just makes me nervous. The representative did say this was only the 3rd time he had heard of this.

What year?, make and model was the camper? The mattress? What was the history of the bed? Something heavy might have been thrown on the bed and a corner cut the wire enough to spark. Not sure, but alittle more info would help, since tens of thousands of heated mattresses are out there in campers, there was probably a special circumstance that caused this. Glad you and your family are ok.

Nothing that I know of- Worked fine the week before and nothing was set on the bed in between uses. Really makes me unsure to use the other bunk. The sheet had a hole burned in it the same size. I am sure glad my son was not burnt. The camper is 2002 Rockwood Freedom Pop Up 2290.

Heated Mattress Issues

I don't know where you live but move down here to Texas and you won't need heated mattresses or cover even in the winter

I have a 2009 Rockwood Roo Hybrid with heated mattresses and have not encountered any problems after many uses. I not sure how this happens, but am sure that is of concern to you and your family.

Thanks for the warning.

Are you sure it was burned from the inside out?
