HELP Frost Freeze Warning Iowa

Howdy folks

Iowa weather forecast is predicted to have some cold temps tonight thru Thur with lows below freezing.

Have not not winterized the camper yet or anything. Now I'm a little nervous if I am good for now as I don't or can't get around to winterizing until next week

Will everything be ok for this short cold spell or shud I take precautions to avoid issues

Thank ya

For the past month, I've been using an air compressor to blow all the water out of my RV plumbing, draining the water heater and draining all holding tanks between camping trips because unexpected overnight freezes can pop up at anytime. This is a stop gap measure until I can fully winterize with antifreeze.

You need the temp to go below freezing for a few hours to do damage. If that is forecasted , you can simply blow out the lines with a small air pump until you get a chance to spend some time on it.

It would have to get below freezing for many hours to be concerned
I see a low of 34 tonight and 39 the next day and I'm in eastern Iowa.
I'm not worried till it's going to be 25 for 6 hours or more

If your traveling or living in the MH, and the call is for overnight frost warnings, your probably OK as long as there is heat inside the MH.

Frost is generally caused by the earth radiating its heat skyward. If there is something above the ground to reflect/re-radiate the heat, i.e. clouds, bottom of MH, etc., you don't get frost because the heat radiated by the ground is reflected or re-radiated back to the ground.

A temperature excursion of a couple degrees below freezing for a couple hours should be OK.

If you have a City water connection and hose, you may want to turn it off and remove the hose as a preventative measure.

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

Correct. Outside temp at freezing doesn't mean water temp instantly goes to freezing.

Just had three nights here in PA where temps got to lows of 27 to 30.
With NO heat in my 5th wheel the remote temp indicator showed INSIDE RV temps of 35 and 38 degrees on those nights. (my remote thermometer retains hi & lows for the day)

It would take more than just a couple of overnight hours of <32 temps to freeze where damage could occur.

If you still have concerns... plug in a small electric heater and let it run overnight.

Cedar Rapids here and the warning is for 7 hours, 2am to 9am Thursday morning. My apps all show only about 33 as the low. I am not concerned at this point. Friday and all next week the temps pick back up.

It only takes a few minutes to blow the water out and then you don't have to worry.
