HELP Frost Freeze Warning Iowa

Howdy folks

Iowa weather forecast is predicted to have some cold temps tonight thru Thur with lows below freezing.

Have not not winterized the camper yet or anything. Now I'm a little nervous if I am good for now as I don't or can't get around to winterizing until next week

Will everything be ok for this short cold spell or shud I take precautions to avoid issues

Thank ya

For the past month, I've been using an air compressor to blow all the water out of my RV plumbing, draining the water heater and draining all holding tanks between camping trips because unexpected overnight freezes can pop up at anytime. This is a stop gap measure until I can fully winterize with antifreeze.

You need the temp to go below freezing for a few hours to do damage. If that is forecasted , you can simply blow out the lines with a small air pump until you get a chance to spend some time on it.

It would have to get below freezing for many hours to be concerned [emoji15]
I see a low of 34 tonight and 39 the next day and I'm in eastern Iowa.
I'm not worried [emoji30] till it's going to be 25 for 6 hours or more

If your traveling or living in the MH, and the call is for overnight frost warnings, your probably OK as long as there is heat inside the MH.

Frost is generally caused by the earth radiating its heat skyward. If there is something above the ground to reflect/re-radiate the heat, i.e. clouds, bottom of MH, etc., you don't get frost because the heat radiated by the ground is reflected or re-radiated back to the ground.

A temperature excursion of a couple degrees below freezing for a couple hours should be OK.

If you have a City water connection and hose, you may want to turn it off and remove the hose as a preventative measure.

Correct. Outside temp at freezing doesn't mean water temp instantly goes to freezing.

Just had three nights here in PA where temps got to lows of 27º to 30º.
With NO heat in my 5th wheel the remote temp indicator showed INSIDE RV temps of 35º and 38º degrees on those nights. (my remote thermometer retains hi & lows for the day)

It would take more than just a couple of overnight hours of <32º temps to freeze where damage could occur.

If you still have concerns... plug in a small electric heater and let it run overnight.

Cedar Rapids here and the warning is for 7 hours, 2am to 9am Thursday morning. My apps all show only about 33 as the low. I am not concerned at this point. Friday and all next week the temps pick back up.

It only takes a few minutes to blow the water out and then you don't have to worry.

Or dump the low point drains. I have done this and emptied the tanks. Until you get consistent overnight lows below freezing for days I have never had a issue.

I think you would be OK, but for extra piece of mind...make sure the gas is turned on and set your heat for 40 or 45 degrees.

I am traveling in Iowa now. It was in colder in Nebraska. My Cedar Creek can take temperatures down to 0 degrees. Heating the interior also heats the storage compartments where water and sewer are. Plus, the Cedar Creek has heating pads on waste tanks. This past January, we were in Maryland with their 30" snow storm. Temps went down to +4. We had no problem. We are living full time in the RV.

Is it possible to plug in your unit and leave the furnace on low to keep everything working. The cost of the propane would certainly be less than a freezing disaster.

We are in Sabula, IA right now. Front came through about 9am.

Going to be in Keokkuk Thurs and Fri nights (Tin Dusters car show in Quincy).

Looks like we will be close to freezing, but no worries.

The CG in Sabula is a "must-check-out" for any RV'er.

I wanted to camp in Sabula earlier this year but couldn't reserve a spot.

Much easier to just open all faucets, that way any freezing of the water will have room to expand. It's the fixtures you need to worry about the most.

you should be fine.
I'm in eastern Canada and we have had frost for the past 3 nights where i have had to scrape the windshield on my truck and car.
new 2017 Greywolf toy hauler is not yet winterized. it will be as soon as i build into the line a bypass switch.
my manual states to blow air into the lines and force water out and then pour antifreeze into the drains.
I tried that and still had residual water in the lines, so they are to be flushed with antifreeze.
we get to minus 45 Celsius here so a bit of frost is not as bad as you might think.

it would take more than few hours of below freezing top have an effect i would think - especially if you are in teh trailer with the furnace running
