HELP water heater always on
I have a 2006 32 srv by Forest River. the hot water heater is a Suburban SW6DE. I can turn off all the breakers to every thing,even the main breaker but the WHITE wire to the element,will still have 110 volts to it.
I found this out the hard way standing in about 1/4" of water. To kill the power to it I have to completley unplug the camper. If any one can answer this question,I will ask a few more. Thanks Tim

Sounds like a reverse polarity problem. I don't remember if these trailers have a bonded neutral or not. Wires could be crossed at either the trailers distribution panel or the recepticle you are plugged into could be wired wrong.

Question: Was the element hot?
If it wasn't, then my first guess would be the switch is between the element and return, instead of between the element and the "hot" AC voltage. So the WH might be "off" but voltage would still be at the element, just no circuit to make it work. Follow that logic? That turns off the WH but not in a safe manner, and any inspector would reject that I'm sure.
Maybe a bad switch stuck in the on position?

I agree with hookmeup.
It's reverse polarity somewhere.
And touching ANYTHING electrical while standing in water is
asking to collect your life insurance early.

well it isn't the outlet I'm pluged into. I unpluged the trailer from the outlet and used the gen for power and got the same results. Now that I know about the problem I can deal with it. If I ever find out whats wrong with it I will update this post. Thanks Tim

I don't know if the element was hot. I did have the switch in the off position all winter and the element didn't burn in two. So I guess it does it's job. But who ever up there in IN that wired it up without going through a circut braker should be sent back into the corn field
I guess the moral to this story is when you throw all the breakers, that don't mean the power is off. Thanks again, Tim
