"Hey Man, Your Wheel is on Fire!"

So I had our first major issue today as we were heading out for a weekend trip all excited as we have not been camping in a while. Get literaly a stop light from the entrance ramp and a guy pulls along side and lets me know my wheel is on fire....and it was!!! Just replaced this axle in April and the bearing had grenaded and come apart....luckly we didnt loose the wheel and we were close by a RV dealership. Able to turn it around and limp it there and start the repair provess...just a few miles from home.

Lets see if the repair shop that replaced the axle steps up....I will wait to post anything about who they are until this is settled.

Scared the crap out of my wife and it pays to have quick access to a fire extguisher!!!

Bummed we cant go out.

Yep that's the notice a RVer hopes he never gets. That and the one you get from a passing motorist

Glad you're all safe, and blessings to the guy who alerted you instead of being one of those that 'doesn't want to get involved'.

And that was great timing...if it had to happen, at least you weren't out on the freeway.

Yea it could have been much worse.....they guys at the shop we limped to said they never see one "still together"! Had the wheel came off.....it could have been much worse for not only me but others on the road as well.

Well...the long and short is the axle was bent to the point it wore the tires out within 500 miles or so. Negative camber that could not be corrected.

That is what I have going on. Luckily I live in Elkhart so lippert is close. My dealer just closed

Part of me thinks the axle was junk from the beginning...but I will never know as I bought it used in 2012.

Really getting angry about all this...

Update-

Shop that did the work called...they are instant that they did nothing wrong and I can't really argue. The wheel bearing took out the hub, drum, brake assembly and of course the bearing. They dissassbled the hub in front of the bad bearing and said that bearing is going as well. The spindle is still good and the axle does not need to be replaced. I agreed to pay cost for the parts and the tow bill, they do the labor. Still not satisfied with the outcome but it could be worse I guess.

We are getting ready to close on our house next week that will allow me to do this type of work on my own for peace of mind.
