Hocking Hills Ohio

I am looking at taking a trip to Hocking Hills Ohio. Does anyone have any experience with the area or any good campgrounds nearby?

Thanks,

Went there last year and stayed at the campground on the property. We didn't have the camper at the time but it was very nice. We had always heard great things about it but we were somewhat disappointed in how commercialized it was and how crowded it became on Saturday and Sunday. If I was going to go again I would definitely go during the week. All in all nice place, good facilities, and plenty to do between hiking, swimming, and other interpretative programs.

If you don't want to stay on park property there are a number of private campgrounds nearby.

Thanks for the input. The wife and I are lucky in that our schedules allow us to avoid crowded weekends most of the time!

Hocking Hills is actually a large area, do you have an idea of where in the Hocking Hills you want to be?

If it is around Old Mans Cave, there is a very nice State Park with camping or there is a KOA outside of Logan and the owners are great and it is also a very well kept and a Kid friendly campground. The other private campgrounds in that area are not as nice but it depends on what you are looking for. In the other areas of the Hocking Hills, I stick with the State parks especially as you get closer to national Forest in the Southern end as you will get move places that are ATV friendly and connected to the Trail system there, makes for a noisy environment if you are not into riding.

I didn't realize it was such a large area. We are from Indianapolis and saw some pictures that a friend took awhile back. We will probably stick with the state parks. We've always had pretty good luck with Ohio and Indiana state parks.

Anyplace in particular you recommend?

Thanks

They have a nice state park, and we have stayed real close at a private one called "Top O The Caves", they both are really great places to stay. Do a search for the area, there are some fun things to check out there, and hiking is really nice.

The hiking is what really appealed to us. Thanks!
