Home clean out for dump site?

Out of curiosity, sometime in the future we may purchase a neighbor's property, can the sewer clean out for a residential property be used as a dump station? I am assuming they are basically the same thing. That would make life a bit easier and convenient for us and friends.

Awesome, I didn't think it would be any different, but hate to assume and then have to tell a funny story later.

I brought the lot next to our house that the house on it was moved. I just ran a sewer line a little longer so I could hook my camper up. I also ran a electric line to the camper so I could have electricity. I could run a water line to camper but I just pull a water hose to camper and fill up the fresh water tank

Here is my take on it, as I am a Wisconsin state certified water and waste water operator.

Can it be done, yes. Is it legal to do it, depends on the city/village/town ordinances where you live, but more than likely it is illegal. The village were I live and work it is illegal to use the sewer lateral clean out of anything other than maintenance to the lateral. This was actually a topic of discussion at one of our meetings/classes this past year.

The reason for it being illegal is because there has been cases people dumping such things as motor oil, vehicle antifreeze, gasoline and other harmful chemicals down the clean outs. Doing such things like this will cause major problems in the sewer mains and at the treatment plant, there are two citys within 30 miles of ours that have had to do a complete restart on their treatment plants within the last year because of gas or motoroil being dumped into the city sewer. This process ends up costing thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars in damage and man power to get everything back up and working correctly.

Granted what you are talking about won't hurt anything, but it is more than likely illegal to do.

I do it all the time. I have a maceration pump I hook up to the discharge and run a garden hose to the clean out. Make it super easy to clean the tanks at home.

What PHS79 said. Depends on your local ordinances. I use my clean out, but I think my local ordinance says I can't. So I don't make a habit of using it. Septic systems I have no idea.

Don't think anyone is talking about using the clean out. I think he was talking about extending the existing sewer line that the house used.

If on a septic tank be sure you clean the tank out on a regular (3 to 5 year) basis due to some of the chemicals used in holing tanks of RVs.

Title of thread and first post say "clean out".

And you don't never use any chemicals in your house septic tank. I think the septic tank on the lot is fifty years old and it's never been pumped out. Let's see my holding tank is 40 gallons and the septic tank is at least 1,000 gallons or more and I pump into it maybe three or four times a year.

Yes the clean out is what I am inquiring about. I figured it's a screw cap and can just connect my hose like I do at a park.

Sewer drain dump

My sewer line termination is at the back of the house where I park my TT. Replaced end cap with a 4" to 1" end cap and ran a 1" PVC pipe out the foundation vent. Connect my macerator and have a beer. When we had a 5th wheel, was told by the city sewer guy I could not use my "clean out" in the front of the house to dump, but I figure I'm OK as I am no longer using the "clean out".

Used Sewer Solution for 10 years with garden hose going into bathroom cleanout on side of the house. Had 4" clean out added when replacing pipe from house to sewer main close to MH. Very convenient. No local restrictions.

Well played sir, well played.

I figure if we are able to but the property in the future, I would probably just use it on the weekends when there's no one working. Less of a chance to be told not to do that.

When mu mom and dad had their house built... my dad had the builder put the sewer clean out a little further in the yard.... Daddy would pull into the space and hook her up... no an issues where they lived.

I have a septic system and use it occasionally. Maybe once/twice a year.

Better to seek forgiveness than to be told "NO!".

We are on a septic system. If the access to the pipe before the septic tank was closer than the 100' it is I might be tempted to dump into it. My concern is about a 30-40 gallon surge possibly overwhelming the septic tank and causing solids to get into the leach field. My neighbor is a weekender. Maybe I should try it on his system when he's not here. 😽😜
