Home Dish Service

We had a thread on Dish Pay As You go and seems that most people that didn't have Dish home service had trouble with the Pay-As-You-Go billing and the people that had home service like the service and didn't have any problems.

I'm thinking in switching to Dish for my home service and adding on the RV receiver but before I sign a two year contact I would like to know how home service works and if you have billing problems. So the question is -- How do you like your home Dish service and do you have billing problems?

We have Ditectv for home, take receivers with us when we travel. Works for us. The basic difference between Directv and Dish network is in the packages. Direc does better with sports, so choose whats important to you the first time.

We already own the Dish receiver and tailgater dish so we probably going to stay with Dish for home so we don't have to re-buy. Dish has Chiefs Football and the WORLD CHAMPIONS ROYALS (not that I'm bragging).

I have been a dish customer for over 20 years now. We signed up for Dish when we built our house in 1996; Cable TV was a few months out when we built for installation so we chose the Dish package and never have looked back. We have upgraded a couple of times of the years to different receivers and satellite dishes, with Dish doing the installation. My only issues is once in a while we will loose the signal if we have a heavy down pour, other than that it is has been great.
I have automatic withdrawal for our account and never had a payment issue in the 20 years we have used them.

Have a hopper and two "joeys" at home and a tailgater with reviewer for the camper or shop when home. Never an issue as we have it autopaid and its bundled with out phone and Internet (Windstream)
Not going to say I have no complaints, but none with dish.

My apologies, but I am unfamiliar with these terms. Can someone please define: hopper, joey, reviewer.

Thank you

I'm guessing spell check intervened.....and it should be receiver.

DISH and Direct both have services using a bigger capacity main DVR on your 'main' tv, that allows smaller 'client' (either wired or wireless) remotes in the house connected to other TV's to access the main DVR menu. So, you can do most menu functions from any receiver connected to any tv.

DISH calls their system a Hopper, and the remote client receivers are called Joeys. Direct calls their system Genie, with remote clients (no particular name, just clients).

Hopper, Dish networks name for a receiver capable of recording multiple programs at once.
Joey, slaves for the Hopper connected to second or third TV to watch programming without a second stand alone receiver.
I think he ment receiver.

Hooper is the main unit with the DVR and sends signals to the Joey which is a remote system on additional TVs.

They are up to Hopper 3 which includes features like 16 tuners so you can record 15 programs and still watch one(over kill). One of the neat features is if you have a network recording over 24 hours old you push a button and skip commercials. I have a 4k TV and it supports that also. It also holds 8 days of local channel content and allows you to view later and if it is 24 hours old you can skip commercials with touch of button.

The new device they are releasing is the Hopper GO which will record up to 100 hours of programming in small box that fits in the palm of your had. Then you can be taken with you and up to 5 devices can be attached to it and play movies anywhere.

Today I think Dish as the most advance system but I'm sure Direct is working on one that will have additional features.

Happy with dish at home and 7 dollars per month for the MH receiver. No billing issues.

I'm now a happy dish customer with the Hopper 3. The service is great and the installation was spot on and everything I expected and more. The Hopper 3 is great system and one the things I do enjoy is every night it records all network program (ABC,CBS,FOX,NBC) between the hours of 7 and 10 pm. If I wait 24 hours to watch them it will skip all the commercials without touching the remote. I also like "Whats Trending" in my area. I haven't tried to add my 211Z/tailgater antenna but I did find out that with the system I have (211Z) will NOT work at the house nor will the Hopper 3 receivers work with the tailgater antenna. If you want to use the Hopper 3 with your RV you must go to the three piece nodes on your dish.

I did find out you can attach a 50 gig to 2 terabyte drive to you Hopper 3 to extend your recording capacity above the 2000 hours it comes with. What I have figured out is if you can move that Hard drive to the 211Z and view movies recorded on it by the Hopper three.

Doesn't look like you can use On Demand without a internet connect.

Now if the billing department can keep there ducks in row I will be happy camper So far the service has been above what I expected.
