Home prep

OK this should be interesting and/or helpful. What do you do to your home before leaving on your camping trip?

We are on a well, and have had 2 inches of water flood the basement overnight when a well pipe broke. So we shut off the well pump before we leave even for a weekend.

Turn water off at the main cutoff coming in from the street, set thermostats to 80 turn on the alarm and hit the road!

Gas water heater in vacation mode or if electric breaker off! Outside motion lights on!

Call our house sitter (who also takes care of the livestock) and go!She stays 24hrs /day untill we give here a return date. She checks in with us once a day in the evening when we are gone too.

Hired a property manager who found us a year lease/tenant and left this past Friday!

Normally, I did very little. For weekend trips, nothing but set the alarm. For week long or longer, I would change the HVAC to be in "vacation mode" (warmer/colder than usual).

Shut off 220V breakers to mig & tig welders, lathe, air compressors and overhead heaters, shut water off to toilets, lavatories/sinks, washer, set thermostat to either 80 in summer or 50 in winter, call the sheriff's home watch, set the alarm and go.

Did you have to store all furniture / clothes / etc?

Yep- we gave away a lot, donated a bunch, threw away a ton, sent some with my in-laws, and packed way too much into the camper. We had movers come and they took it away 2 days before we left.

We go on a lot of short trips. We have a laminated 5 x7 pre flight check list. It covers the stock load out of the coach: tools and permanent house hold items; fridge freezer; dry goods; coach prep ( jacks, ant); toad prep and hook up; and house shut down. Both wife and I have a copy and pre flight during oil pressure run up. We laminated after the fourth iteration last year, this has really simplified launch.

OK, I must have missed something. I may have not heard your news. Are you moving or going FT?
