Hot water tank

Do you drain the tank after every camping trip?

Thanks!

We camp often enough that our water doesn't get stale.

X2. Plus, I can't stand the thought of trying to thread that anode rod more than once a year.

After seeing this last Sunday coming from my tank ...... I will drain when its not being used.

I've started a thread withthe same pics called slime and hopefully someone who has had a similar issue can offer suggestions on how to clean up this mess.

Hot water tank

I do it once a year. I don't drain my house water heater. That is 100gal. With only two of us I am sure I all those gallons of water are not circulated in and out in a short period of time.

One caution about emptying water heater would be if you do drain your water heater after every trip make sure breaker is off so it does not accidentally get turned on without water. If your water heater especially if it has electric capabilities is turned on without water in it, it will ruin heater. Just my opinion.

Yeah but you know the quality of water at your house. "City water" ? Even better.

I do the same. Then folks wonder why there water starts to smell. I drain after every trip and blow out the lines also. My water is always fresh and smell free. Later RJD

And make sure it's full of water by letting it blow out the pressure relief valve before firing it up again

Community "well water". I have only camped at state parks so those are well water also. Maybe that's why I have never had issues.

Turn the water heater off and pull the anode or plug if it's an Atwood. Flip the relief valve to open and it will drain much faster with the anode/plug out.
