The only instance I can see where it would make sense is if your PVC was a diameter larger than a wooden flagpole that you could then slide into it and the wooden pole would bottom out on the cap in that extra piece, but that's not what I see anybody doing.

Please explain.

Counter balance? Just a guess.

Looks like my Cardinal. Somebody else asked for closeups. That's what I'm interested in, too.

Can you show some close-ups of the mounting, that really looks good.

Used a short piece of 1X4 screwed to a 2X4 on a 90 degree angle, painted black...mounted 2 holders on each end.....on my TrailAir pin box there was a small opening so I drilled the 1X4 to align with those holes...dropped a 4 inch 1/4"bolt down thru the opening and attached a wing nut.....I could actually leave it on when we travel but I do remove it for storage with the flags.

I ordered the telescoping pole from Camping World. Comes with a drive on base plate for a 2" I'd pole. Should work under a 5er landing gear. Just be aware the pole will be very close to the side of your unit. When the wind blows you may need to take it down or have it on the downwind side if possible..I use the bumper hitch on my Sunseeker..
