You dont want to do it..

You dont want to go to the outer banks with a camper, Really the campgrounds are not very nice. Best bet, rent a house and bring some friends, you'll enjoy it MUCH more. FWIW, I live a few hours away and while a kinda cool place with neat things to see absolutely Nothing is there that justifies the hassle of pulling a trailer 14 hours to see it.

That was going to be my suggestion too. This summer will be the 4th time we are going to OBX. We rent a huge house on the ocean, all of my in laws and their kids go, and it's a great time. It's a 14 hour drive for me from NY and as much as I love camping, I'll take the pool, hot tub, beach access and everything else that comes with renting a house there.

As already stated - no justification is needed. Areas close to home are great for a quick get-away especially when time is more limited.

Tomorrow is not guaranteed

My late wife passed in her sleep while we were camping with friends. She only had one heart attack. Life tends to be a harsh teacher. There is no guarantee that the sun will rise for you tomorrow. If there is someplace you dream of going, go now. Don't put it off. Enjoy every day as if it is your last, it might be. Always remember to tell your loved ones how much you love them.

X3. Go see what YOU want to see, close, far, it's still YOUR bucket list!

Life is just to short, we are not guaranteed tomorrow or even a minute from now. I use to plan trips six months or more in advance and now I just go, no planning

That being said, just DO IT!!! GOOOOO!!! You don't need to justify anything to anyone, because they probably don't care.

Life is all about experiences, not "should have dones".
This theory works for this ol' man!

We're getting really anxious about a trip, 2,000 miles one way. Justification? Because I wanna see what's out their. Sure, we could see it when we're dead, but I'm scared of heights, not sure I'll be able to look down to see it.

You alternate, we do one longer trip for 2 weeks and then 3 months later we do a trip around our state for 2 weeks and include like 4 stops of interest.

I'm with the folks who have posted before us. We don't have to justify which motorhome we purchased, which campgrounds we go to, and how many miles we travel. I'm pretty sure the original poster didn't think of the ancillary things this post would generate-having one thing probably on his/her mind---but at least so far everyone can pretty much go and do what they want as long as it doesn't negatively impact others.

Before we bought the Roo we rented a Class C and took the kids to Ocracoke for a week 5 years ago. Do it!!!! Just be sure to pack extra hoses and mosquito spray for yards, apply it the first night around your site and you won't have mosquitoes making your visit miserable (except when you run to the bathhouse). The Park Service no longer does this.

We went on an 8,500 mile round trip to Alaska last summer and it was the trip of a lifetime. No justification needed to do that trip other than we wanted to do it. Now almost any trip we do in the lower 48 seems like almost nothing compared to that trip. We plan to go diamond hunting at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas next week which is about 900 miles in each direction.

Well, a lot of it has to do with why you have an RV. Many only go to a local campground an hour or two from home. Some use it for tailgating at sporting events and festivals, some live on theirs.
We got ours to use as a motel room. We've towed up to 4500 miles in three weeks while seeing sites and visiting interesting places like Yellowstone, Estes Park, Pike's peak, smoky mountain national park, Ark Encounter, creation museum, etc. So our justifications are . . . The camper is an extension of our home. It's my sheets, my pillow, my televisions and remotes, my recliner, my frig, my coffee maker, my shower and toilet with my germs. Everything in it is homey to us. No surprises with bed bugs or weird stains in the carpet or bed covers.☢️
And... It's our dog that travels with us. 🤣
Your needs may be different but after considering all angles you'll find your answer.
And it's never about saving money. I wish that were the case. Enjoy and have a safe trip.
