How do you keep busy during the winter months?

For those of us in northern latitudes who aren't full timers, the winter can mean staring at our winterized RV parked in our driveway lamenting the start of winter. I find myself looking back on photos from last summer and dreaming about our adventures next summer. I've started booking campgrounds and thinking about things I may want to do differently. I've already got 30 days and 10,000 miles of travel for next year planned.

How do you non full timers pass the winter?

We camp in the winter. Because we're [finally!] retired, it's easy for us to choose our travel days and destinations according to the weather. The trick in our neck of the woods is finding places with electric hookups that stay open after September; we can bring our own water but we need the space heater to stay warm!

Maintain the motorhome; throw and shovel snow occasionally; enjoy the holidays; keep doing all the usual errands, etc. and job; save up and plan for next year!

You've got to be kidding! Can you come to Ohio? I've got plenty you could do. Since retiring almost three years ago, I've been busier than I have ever been. A new statement I recently learned is that "I need to retire from retirement!"

I live where there is 'NO MO SNO' but still go to FL for a couple months. Actually, stay home and keep the boat on the Atlantic during June, July, and August when the CGs are full.

I do as much as I can to avoid thinking about the time that I can't go camping - play with grandkids / church activities / sporting events / etc. But when all else fails, I look at the cellphone power point I've created showing campsite photos, dates, who was with DW & me, travel times, etc. That takes me back to happy camping times! ...only 4 months to go!

how do you keep busy - not the problem

I find the opposite problem. I have lots to do at my home and with my good supply of power and hand tools. But when I am camping, I find there is less to do and less to do it with. I'm a fair woodworker and gardener, but not a great electrician or truck mechanic, so I am not about to tear down and engine or rewire the electrical panel. There is only so much cleaning and accessorizing one can do while in a campground.

So, other than visit tourist sites and recreating, how do you fill your time?

I have a 35 acres wood lot...so I spend some time doing cleaning up, opening new trails and cutting wood for the stove and summer campfires.
I like snowshoeing and cross country skiing in there also.
Sadly, the RV is sleeping in the machine shed until early May.

Plan next year's trips, play pickle ball, read, visit grandkids, and do winter projects around the house. In year 6 of retirement and still amazes how we don't have time to do everything we want!

During the winter months I spend way too much time reading RV and travel forums. I also plan trips for both the RV and travel destinations during the winter. Last January I caught a great price for a 7 day eastern Caribbean cruise that we will be leaving for this Thursday. Also last winter I booked a 9 day tour of China that starts the first week of April ’17. Normally we would be RVing in April but the price of the China tour was too good to pass up. Anticipation of future trips is the only way I can get through winter.

I love world travel as much as RVing.

We go camping, just like summer. Welcome to Florida, sorry, just had to rub it in. We camp in Florida and Georgia. It is harder to find spots, so sometimes we pick where is available, rather than a destination. Also the prices go up down here during this time of the year.

Well owning a house, and having property to take care of, is one way we keep ourselves busy. Never a dull moment when you own a house. Always something / projects to do.
Our TT sits in the backyard and it will await the day we take it out next year, but, I don't fret over it sitting idle during the winter. Too much other stuff to occupy my mind with. Besides, I don't really care to be out camping in this frigid Northern weather when I can be home in my toasty home. But, to each his own.

We already had our first snowfall - 25 inches so that kept me busy for a few days. Our 3 grown kids got married, had some kids and stayed local and they generally come over for dinner on a weekly basis. Once again DW talked me into putting up outside Christmas decorations. That ate up 3 days and I'm supposed to do complete re-models of 2 of the bathrooms in my ample spare time. Time for a nap.
