The DW and I still work so we are the ones that all you retired folk talk bad about passing you at 70+. I usually go until I need fuel (I plan my stops at 250 miles or so), get fuel, riders do their business and then back on the road for the rest of the trip or until fuel is needed. I don't stop until I'm there. It's not uncommon for me to drive 10-11 hours a day for my job so a vacation run is nothing.

Now with the new truck and the added tank we are good for around 700 miles before fuel. I'll have to plan a little differently for the DW and pups business stops. Probably hit a couple off/on ramps. Every stop equals about 30 minutes. I can catch a lot of fish in 30 minutes.........well most of the time.

250 to 350 because traveling at 65mph is stressful getting passed buy other rigs. But when I hit the hills and someone is next to us, it becomes a competition on who gets to the top first as we both hammer it and the black smoke starts to pour... then The wife says (stop showing off, you and I both know this truck is fast)..Lol their have been many times I had the DSP on heavy tow but switched to race

No way transam, they curse at me cause I'm doing 60 in an 70 or in some cases 80. I sure wish I had the extra fuel tank.

We usually get a early start when traveling to a specific destination as we wakeup fairly early. We normally go about 400 miles/day and still pull in about 3:30 - 4:00 in the afternoon. This helps to get a campsite during busy camping periods and ensures we're setup and relaxed to have an adult beverage around 5 before dinner and hour or so later.

We typically limit ourselves to about 500 miles or 10 hours. Our trips tend to be long hauls of 1000 miles each way, so we don't want to spend most of the trip stopping overnight along the way.

We have been talking about a diesel pusher for the past couple years and here recently have started looking pretty seriously just for this reason. For her to be able to get up and walk around a minute or two and use the bathroom. The pups? well when the wheels are turning they are pasted out snoring so they really don't care. They can go way longer than I can hold out. We've been know to leave out on trips at 3am just so we can get there at a decent hour (5-6 pm) and 90% of our trips are into a different time zone. I gain an hour with-in an hour when I drive west.

We travel about 400 miles a day if we are on an interstate or good 4 lane hiway. I try to stay around 65 mph, never in a big hurry. I have reservations made at the end of the trip but normally don't make any along the way when we've gone around 300 or so miles we start looking at campsites within a hundred miles or so and call ahead and get one reserved. This has worked well for us.

Yea, my pup's the same way. He'll sit up on the console but eventually he sound asleep. Really not a problem. What do you do with the dog (s) if you leave the RV to go to dinner or some place you can't take a door? Leave them in the camper, I guess?

Too Tall,

I had that feeling after I retired 6 years ago. Believe me, IT GOES AWAY! Take your time, enjoy, wander around a bit, and see everything this great country has to offer. We spent darn near 3 weeks criss-crossing Alabama and still didn't see it all, but what we saw in Huntsville, Birmingham and Montgomery was awesome.

Who knew the only coon dog cemetery in the country is located in Alabama? OK, maybe some did, but I didn't. Do now...been there!

We used to do 400+ miles a day.....but as we get older and better we like to stop at closer to 300 miles.....and not be so stressed.
I understand now why my dad used to take 3 days to get from Tulsa to St. Louis area...a total of 400 miles.....Because he could take 3 days...LOLOL

I am about to go on my longest trip with my 5w from Southern Michigan to Southern Florida. 1350 miles, I would like to go 550 miles a day for the first two days then the remainder the last day. But when I return to Michigan I plan on only about a 4 hour trip I will let everyone know how I did.

Great trip. You'll have mostly flat country so you should be able to make decent time on the interstates. I bought my RV in Lansing which was about 1200 miles from my home here in Louisiana. The only trouble we had was missing our off ramp in Memphis and wasted an hour trying to get back on track in stead of turning around at the next exit.

We've got two trips planned for Florida in September and October. Leaving Sunday for Colorado. That's going to be interesting to see how my truck handles that.

We have done 500-600 in a day. About 12 hours. We stop every few hours to let the dog out to stretch his legs and do anything he needs to.

We just returned from a 2wk trip to Michigan from NC. I planned the route and mileage ahead of time. Since it was our first long distance with the tt I planned 400 miles a day, figured out where that put us then looked for campgrounds close to the toll rds. It worked great. We probably could have done more miles ea day but that us got in, set up and time to relax before the next days drive. We spent 2 nights on the way to SW lower MI. And 1 night coming back since we were already on the eastern side of the state.

If we have to go somewhere that they can't go then yes the will either stay in the camper or go with us and stay in the truck.

We do up to about 600 miles per day. We're about to do Fort Worth, TX to Boston , MA. We are planning on 4 days to do it and then we'll take a month or more heading back.

We never try to rush to our next destination. Our trip planning takes into consideration two major items: campgrounds and fuel stops near where we want to go. It's a beautiful thing when all three coincide, but that rarely happens. Typically we'll lay out our route in 250-300 mile segments, which amounts to 4-6 hours road time. Start out between 9 and 10 and pull in between 3 and four...... stay at least 2-3 nights, sometimes longer if it makes sense, dollar-wise.

It's all about the journey......

we don't worry about miles we usually set a stop time and 1 hour before we start looking a place to stop. I want to set up for the night in semi-daylight, not darkness. usually hook up only the electrical, water and sewer if need be.
