Hurricanes trashed campgrounds in the FL panhandle, and FL Keys. Campgrounds that were usually busy, are now packed. We've learned that without a reservation well in advance, we probably can't find much if anything. There are exceptions, and those few places are where we frequent.
I only need a day or two heads up, and I'm ready to go. Very nice having the Class A parked next to the house, plugged in, and cleaned after the last trip. Only really need to add clothes and food. Sometimes we buy food at the grocery store once we get there.
Hopefully after those affected areas are repaired, the availability will increase some again.

We are 50/50. Like to plan ahead with the grown kids so they can get time off and go with us sometimes. Also like to just say let's go here tomorrow. We were that way when the kids were still home. There were many times it was load up the camper and let's go. Life is to short to have to do everything on a schedule. So we just go with the flow.
We, being my wife and myself, are not "spur of the moment" campers. Yet. 10 months, 2 days, and 3 hours until we become one, if you get my drift.
Yes, we are both retiring on the same day.
