Frank, I'm pretty sure you'd be safe using one. The FCC has pretty much
dropped CB off their radar.

I used to have one of those little GE emergency packs. It had a magnet
mount antenna and a cigarette socket plug and it worked pretty good.
I loaned it to someone many years ago and I can't remember who and apparently
they never remembered they borrowed it so it never came home.

AND as far as cell phones taking over, I guess they have but a cell
phone is no good when you're trying to talk to the trucker in the next lane!
I'm thinking about getting one but don't want the DW to hear all the BS.

Citizens band radios have no licensing requirements any more.
When I got mine I had "Call Letters" I had to use for every broadcast.

Now you just plug it in and chat away in a several mile wide chat room.
Warning... NOT rated "G" any more.

NC-17 or worse on just about every channel.

If I had to do it over again I would get Single Side band capability (although the unit I have has weather channels that have really come in handy).
