How Much Propane Do Fridges Use?
Hey Guys
About to take my first trip with my new to me camper (2005 Sandpiper 23T).
Going to have the 2 propane tanks filled before we leave.
From what i read, general consensus seems to think its ok to travel with them on so that is the plan.
They will only be used for running the fridge.
Curious, ballpark estimate on how long two full tanks would last?

Probably a month, or more.
The fridge is not a big consumer of propane.

Consider this. The refer propane flame is about the size of my gas log pilot light at home and it uses one gallon of propane/week. And, the gas log pilot is on 24/7.
My guess is that 40lbs (10 gallons) of propane would run a refer all summer.

we almost exclusively dry camp -no hook ups. our fridge runs on propane 50% of the time from April to November. And we use the heat a lot especially in the spring/fall. We rarely cook inside and I don't have a hookup for my grill. So that's April to November: we use 60# of propane.

We run the both refer and wh on propane for 4 months 24/7 and have yet to use 30# in 3 yrs and never turn the refer off except to defrost, but do turn the wh off when parked at home. Neither appliance are burning over a few minutes every 2 or 3 hrs while on the road or parked unless the refer is opened a lot or hot water is used.

Furnace is the major propane user...... Our 30 lb bottles for just frig & water heater will last us all summer plus

X2. But we'll go thru a 30 lb. bottle by furnace in about a weekend with using the furnace on either end of the season (spring and fall) with outside temps in the 40s and 50s. We don't use electric heaters and like to be toasty.

BTW, get a luggage scale. Weigh your tanks to determine how much is in them. My 30# tanks are around 56# full, 19# empty I think. I simply made a chart to show % propane left. I'll weigh the active tank before a trip just to get an idea how much is left. I never had any luck with the magnetic gauges. I guess not enough usage to create the temp difference to work.
