How much tax do you pay per gallon of fuel?
How much tax do you pay per gallon of fuel?
Here is a nice map showing how much you get charged per gallon of gas.
It surprised me that it was that much but is very informative.
Take a closer look at Conneticut tax 67 cents.
My question is what are they doing with all that money? Fix the roads or help the homeless?

I am assuming liter based on base price, so that anywhere from $1.00 to 1.40 ish per gal tax

I will say if memory serves correctly at least the roads up there are better taken care of. At least from the roads I have traveled up that way.

Well here in NC it is $.17 + 7% of wholesale cost on top of the Fed tax. So state tax alone is over .40 per gallon currently and our roads are crap! The legislature a few yeas back made it legal to transfer miney from the gas tax to fund other programs so that is where a large chunk goes. Can drive 15 mils to SC and it is 20 cent cheaper

Here in Maryland, "The Tax & Spend State", the governor wants to repeal the sales tax on gas at 2% for the next 3 years to get it to an additional 6% sales tax on top of the already high Gas Tax. It's not a Gas Tax increase though in his mind. It's just collecting the 6% sales tax. This clown thinks by calling it something different it won't impact our wallets.

Yup - 2007 , using Vancouver as example total is aprox $1.03/L or about $4.12/USGal. Yesterdays price aprox $1.28/L or about $5.12/USGal. Those prices determined by L X 4 to give approximate U.S. Gallon and in CDN $ which is approximately at par with USD today. Price will be slightly less inland from Vancouver area.

This just released today 2/1/12
Before the market opened Tuesday, Exxon reported net income of $9.4 billion profit for the 2011, or $1.97 a share, in the fourth quarter.
That's up from $9.25 billion, or $1.86 a share, in the same period in 2010.

WAAAAy too much here in south-western Ontario. Considering Canada is a major exporter of oil we are the only country that has oil companies gouging us and they are sponsored by all levels of government.

In the UK, the tax is about 5x the base price. Gasoline is running about $8 a gallon over there.

OUCH !!!!!! That's a buck a mile for us Georgetownians
It's incredible when you see or hear the 9 billion dollar plus profits these companies make. Would it be so bad to just make like 5 billion dollars profit and give us a little break. At a cheaper price they'd sell more product and probably end up with about the same profit anyway.

Don't confuse big numbers with big margin... oil companies make huge revenues - Exxon made $41b, but spent $36b in acquisition and exploration to get it. They have to account for that over multiple years so that they can survive the market. This doesn't include the other expenses of running a major corp, including salaries, dividends, etc... so while they are close to records on proceeds, they set a record on exploration costs!
Just for comparison, google makes more than that, with much higher margin (more profit), but they aren't assaulted for gouging. Anyone know what apples margin is? If I remember right, its about 5x exxons.
Here in California, Jerry brown makes more on gas than Exxon!
