Huntsville State Park

Is anyone camping at Hunstville State Park (Texas) this weekend?
If so, I'd love to say howdy and share a barley pop with ya!

Which site did you camp in? I heard they opened up some new sites with hook ups in the last three or four years. I was there last December, but did not camp there.

It's one of our favorite parks. We've taken to liking sites 135 and 136.

I reserved online but did not give me the option to select specific sites. Is it possible to reserve a specific site?

It only let me choose the section (I.e. Sites 1-26, water/sewer/electric) not specific site.

We were in site 16
As far as I could tell, though I could be wrong, the only sites with water, electric and sewer were the 25 pull through sites, so thats what I booked. some of these sites are VERY unlevel. I saw trailers with the tongue on the ground, some with almost a foot of blocks on one side.
My spot, #16, wasnt too bad. Front to back was fairly level and I needed 3 legos on one side of the trailer.

No, you can only reserve which loop or group or road you want.
So you have Raven, I think, and when you get there they will show you a map of the available sites and you pick one.
They will tell you that if you get there and want another site, to call them before setting up in the new site.
So if you just randomly pick site 9 (for example) and get there and notice its horribly un level, but site 16 looks OK, and is empty, just call the ranger station and tell them you are switching to site 16. (or whatever site you like)

My advice is to get on the "inside loop" somewhere around 11,13,16,17, 20 as you will have a large shaded area with picnic table right outside your door.

The "outside loop" is on the water side but there is a big drop off you have to go down to get to your picnic table area.

One more thing, if you pick a site on the water side you need to turn into the loop at the first entrance. If you pick a spot on the "inside" part, drive past the first entrance and turn in the second entrance. (near the park host)

I can't remember the exact spots, but there are a couple in the pull through section where the sewer hookup is uphill. Unless you're really high off the ground, good luck with dumping. Something to look at before you set up.

Thanks. Had a great time.

Only spent the first night in the full hookup area. Did some recon and the best spots were the ones with shelters. Not full hookup, only electric water, so that was a bummer but sites were much more level and much larger.

Much more space, closer to the water/swim area/boat launch/playground/etc.

The shelter proved to be useful with a few showers that rolled through throughout our stay.
